I think England could have bowled a touch fuller so far. You look at the follow through from the Pavilion End, already, there's some marks and you think of Nathan Lyon.

I can fully understand why England have done the formation they have, but I don't get why they announced it the day before.

I think Boland here and Starc at Edgbaston would have been a better combination for Australia.

Robinson consistently bowling under 80mph again. He's accurate to be fair but still seems down on pace.

    Jim, Bucks

I might be being too generous but the surfaces at Edgbaston and so far at Lord's have been pretty slow. Might be part of it?

  3. Aus 32-0published at 14 overs

Just a pair of singles from Ollie Robinson's over. Australia are grinding their way through this morning session.

You saw Harry Brook get out at Edgbaston to a similar delivery. Khawaja didn't have to boot that one away.

  5. Aus 30-0published at 13.2 overs

    Close again!

Usman Khawaja tries to pull Ollie Robinson, doesn't get it and the ball loops up.

The left-hander completely loses sight of it and then belatedly tries to get his body in the way as the ball threatened to land back on his stumps!

In doing so, Khawaja almost overbalances. He was close to standing on his own stumps.

England don't care how the wickets come but they could really do with one now.

There goes a chance to Ollie Pope at fourth slip. That's two now. Joe Root's was a tough one. It goes quickly, but you've got to take them.

That's two down for England already. It's not easy for the slips because they are going to have to gamble and go quite close.

  7. dropped catch

Warner dropped on 20published at 13 overs

    Aus 30-0

This time the edge is found but the catch goes down!

Stuart Broad around the wicket to David Warner, who props forward and the ball flies off the shoulder of the bat.

It goes quickly to Ollie Pope at fourth slip but he can't cling on. He'd expect to take that.

I can understand why they want Josh Tongue, why they want that X-factor. I can see why they didn't go with Moeen Ali, I don't think his finger would have healed. What's happened to Chris Woakes? He's got a brilliant record here at Lord's.

  10. Aus 26-0published at 12 overs

    Warner 19, Khawaja 7

One thing that has been clear so far is that there is not a great deal of pace in the surface.

The ball certainly isn't flying through to Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps.

In six of the previous eight Tests in the first innings at Lord's, in the first ten overs, there had been at least two wickets. A fine start for Australia.

Australia will be delighted having not lost a wicket, that catch for Joe Root which probably just carried. Australia will be very happy to be no wickets down.

  13. Aus 25-0published at 11 overs

Maiden over from Stuart Broad, who beats Usman Khawaja again midway through it.

This one nips past the outside edge. We've seen that a few times but only one genuine edge so far.

A ball from Stuart Broad straight away that nipped back up the slope. I don't know whether it's the ball. That's a beautiful cutter into Usman Khawaja. It could've done with being a little fuller.

  15. Aus 25-0published at 10.1 overs

    Close again!

Bonce and the ball nips back to beat Usman Khawaja's inside edge.

Not a bad start to this second spell for Stuart Broad.

The Pavilion End is the end to bowl at, I preferred that end. If you can get it to pitch around middle and leg to the left hand, it is perfect.

Another bowling change now and a change of ends for Stuart Broad. He'll bowl at the Pavilion End now.

Warner's been watching England too much and reckons if they can do it, I can do it as well. There's not too much pace in this pitch and it's certainly not two of the best shots I've seen him play.

  19. Aus 25-0published at 10 overs

    Warner 18, Khawaja 7

Ugly but effective from David Warner!

He gets down on one knee to Ollie Robinson and hacks the ball through square leg - enough on it to take it for four.

There have been a couple of those from Warner, giving England a taste of their own medicine.

It's been particularly hard for openers, eight of the last 11 Tests, a wicket has fallen in the first five overs. Getting through nine overs takes some doing.
