They are playing it brilliantly. Khawaja has had a poke a couple of times at Jimmy Anderson, but apart from that, Australia are playing this brilliantly.

  2. Aus 12-0published at 6 overs

Some positive running between the wickets from David Warner and Usman Khawaja.

Given these conditions it's no surprise that they're reach keen to be watching from the non-striker's end as much as possible!

I don't mind Warner being a bit funky to Stuart Broad because Stuart Broad has got the wood on him. It might mess Broad's line and length up.

  4. Aus 10-0published at 5.2 overs

What's this?! David Warner goes Bazball and moves across his stumps to slog-sweep Stuart Broad!

It goes in the air towards deep backward square but lands short of the fielder. Just a single.

A few words and plenty of laughs between Broad and Warner after that.

No wickets, not too many runs but quite the start at Lord's this morning!

That is a fishing expedition from Warner, he didn't need to do that.

  6. Aus 9-0published at 5.1 overs

Now David Warner has a waft outside off!

It's a nothing shot to a delivery well wide of off from Stuart Broad. The Australian will be glad to have missed that.

I don't think I'll stop feeling incredibly nervous until Jimmy takes a trademark wicket. He's world class, but needs to do more this Test than he did at Edgbaston. Please Jimmy!

Khawaja has had a couple of pokes now, that in-swinger is getting him. Not quite carried. It's very difficult to move forward and dive forward at first slip.

  9. Aus 9-0published at 5 overs

    England are getting ever closer!

Jimmy Anderson hoops one past Usman Khawaja's outside edge.

He does find the edge next ball - a genuine edge - but the ball doesn't quite carry. Pretty much on the half-volley to Joe Root at first slip. So close but not close enough for England.

Players and stewards alike were on hand to stop the protesters getting to the Lord's pitch a few minutes ago.

Jonny Bairstow actually carried one of them off the pitch.

    Warner 7, Khawaja 1

Stuart Broad ends the over with a beauty to Usman Khawaja.

The Australia opener just dangles his bat outside off and the ball nips away to beat the edge. Khawaja was a touch fortunate.

I saw Jack Leach last night. The prognosis sounds good. He is hoping to be back bowling in October.

That's put it in Khawaja's mind. The batters will be loving it as well. This is a true test of an opening batter. A true test.

  14. Aus 5-0published at 3 overs

Good over from Jimmy Anderson. A maiden to Usman Khawaja.

England's record wicket-taker got the ball moving nicely both ways and did find the outside edge. The ball dropped well short of the fourth slip, though.

A bit of a disruption after the first over this morning as Just Stop Oil protesters made their way onto the field of play.

No damage was done to the pitch, though, and we were quickly back under way.

Just a single from Stuart Broad's over, clipped down to fine leg by Usman Khawaja.

Broad is excited when David Warner leaves the last ball but it's all a bit theatrical - it missed off stump by a distance.

  17. Aus 4-0published at 1.1 overs

We are back under way with Stuart Broad bowling around the wicket to Usman Khawaja.

His first delivery moves away form the left-hander, who lets it go past outside off stump, but it does stay low.

I guess the question arises, would Ben Foakes have dealt with that better than Bairstow? I've never seen a rugby player carry someone 50 metres off the ground.
