  1. Aus 188-2published at 49 overs

A wild ball from Joe Root is way down leg and Jonny Bairstow cannot get there, with the ball fizzing away for four.

That over has just relieved the pressure England were starting to build.

Josh Tongue will bowl what is likely to be the last over before tea.

  2. Aus 183-2published at 48.2 overs

Joe Root has just bowled a 74mph bouncer to Marnus Labuschagne.

We have reached that stage already.

Tell you what, as an Australian, England rocking between three 79mph bowlers is excellent. Other than Tongue has been pretty easy. 5-0?

Cummins? I thought players weren't allowed phones during play?! Another void series, such a shame...

Josh Tongue looks England's most dangerous bowler by a distance, his extra pace finding some life in this docile pitch.

He gets Marnus Labuschagne pushing forward again to a delivery that gathers speed down the slope before flashing past the outside edge.

Given the whingers (15.21) seem to have conveniently short memories, may I remind them we have won 11 out of 14 Tests under this approach. A lot better than one out of 17 before then isn't it?

    Optimistic of Peterborough

Can we just not play Australia at Lord's anymore?

    Sean, Lincoln

The run rate increase seems to have coincided with Ollie Pope going off injured. Is it possible he single-handedly kept the rate down?

  7. Aus 182-2published at 47 overs

Joe Root comes around the wicket to Steve Smith with a slip and leg slip in place.

'Very good Joe!" is the cry from his Yorkshire team-mate Jonny Bairstow.

Steve Smith repeatedly tries to pick out a gap in the leg side but can only pick out the fielder each time.

    A welcome maiden for England.

As per CricViz's captaincy grid, which rates the selection of each bowler to each batter, Root is considered a bad option at both Smith and Labuschagne.

    Oh dear.

Who had the 47th over in the 'let's chuck it to Joe Root' sweepstake?

    Because here he is.

Australia were 181-2 off 45 overs. In the last few Tests at Lord's, after 45 overs Ireland were 148-7, England were bowled out after 45 overs exactly last year for 165, New Zealand were bowled out in 40 overs for 132. It's the second highest score after 45 overs that England have conceded at Lord's when they have bowled first.

For Tom Mallows, I've tried going to the toilet, making several teas, and popping out for a walk but nothing has helped to increase the wicket count. Any other ideas?

    I appreciate your efforts, Stefan.

    How about the lucky socks?

It does seem to be brightening up at Lord's, with even a touch of blue sky breaking through the clouds.

Steve Smith notches another three runs to his score with a flick through the leg-side.

Those two earlier rain delays mean we have an extra 20 minutes before tea, which will now take place just before 16:00 BST.

BR825: Why are English cricket fans so reactive and panicky? Two of the best players in the world are batting well and our fans act as if the world is ending. Chill out, the opposition are allowed to play well.

Ben Stokes knee is tested as he sprints all the way to the mid-off boundary to claw back a drive from Marnus Labuschagne, saving one run.

Tongue's over also included a no-ball, something that is becoming an issue for England in this series.

More on Steve Smith's CricViz captaincy grid, where England only have yellow or red options in their recognised attack in this line-up. The only bowlers in Test cricket to be green would be left-arm spinners, including Ravindra Jadeja, Keshav Maharaj, Shakib Al Hasan and Jack Leach...

Australia have played very well but England can point to a few marginal decisions that have not gone their way this afternoon.

Josh Tongue is being brought back into the attack, which livens the crowd up,
