Smith 25, Labuschagne 31
Not the best start from Ben Stokes. He bowls two no-balls before two over-pitched deliveries are gloriously put away for four by Marnus Labuschagne, prompting Stokes to kick the turf in frustration.
Australia's run rate is now over four an over. This is turning into a difficult session for England.
Steve Smith is enjoying himself amidst the Lord's gloom.
Based on CricViz's expected wicket model, England should have taken 3.9 wickets based on the balls they have so far delivered.

You definitely would have wanted three or four wickets by lunch when putting a team in, but this pitch has been quite deceptive.
Smith 25, Labuschagne 21
Having negotiated a tricky early spell Australia have really found their groove here. England are only sporadically extracting something from another slowish surface.
Ben Stokes has decided he has had enough and is bringing himself on. Can the skipper make something happen (again)?

It's a little bit of a contrast to the toss. Both teams wanted to bowl but it's been quite a placid Lord's pitch here.

Since Ollie Pope went off injured, Australia have scored 62-1 off 8.2 overs.

Re: Marcus at 14:43. It's Test cricket - it's always a key couple of hours.

Broad is still standing there, he is devastated. Broad really thinks this is out.
Stuart Broad is convinced he has Marnus Labuschagne lbw here as he leaves a shot outside off stump and it clips the top of his pad.
Ben Stokes declines the review and it proved a wise choice, Hawkeye showed the ball was missing the stumps by a distance, even if there were four of them.
Marnus Labuschagne has occasionally looked vulnerable outside off stump but anything straighter he has been ruthless, clattering Stuart Broad away for three successive fours. The final shot was a lovely, wristy flick through mid-wicket.

Just keep it simple. England are playing some good, positive, exciting cricket. It's a really good time to be a part of the England set-up. He's bowling good pace and Josh Tongue's picked up two vital wickets. Keep it simple.

Rachel T: Smith’s wicket will always count as three.
PitchedOutsideLeg: Tiny gap between Steve Smith's bat and the ball there. You could barely get a piece of sandpaper between oak and willow.
Another good delivery from Ollie Robinson as he gets one to nip away from Steve Smith and beats his outside edge.
England have had a few of those deliveries so far without success.
Time for the players to have a drink. Already it does feel like the second half of his session could be crucial.
The ECB have released a statement regarding Ollie Pope, who was forced off the field after injuring his shoulder shortly after lunch and has yet to return:
"Ollie Pope has hurt his right shoulder and is currently being assessed by the England medical team. We will update you in due course when we know more."

Marcus: Feels like a key couple of hours now.

I like watching Steve Smith here, he's going right across to negate the one going right down the hill. He's hitting against the slope and it could be a good tactic.
When Josh Tongue gets it right, Aussie opening batters are sent packing...

It is the joint-second quickest time in which Steve Smith has reached 25 runs in a Test innings.
