Lovely cover drive from Khawaja. Anderson's bowled 15 balls, 14 slightly off the back of the length and the 15th he's gone searching. England have struggled when they go searching.

  3. Aus 6-0published at 4.3 overs

Usman Khawaja eases the pressure slightly with a drive through the covers.

Impeccably timed and it runs away up the slope for four.

  6. Aus 2-0published at 4 overs

Another maiden from Stuart Broad. He is up for this!

David Warner tried to get off strike with a quick single a couple of times but without success.

Back over to Jimmy Anderson. Is there time for two more overs before lunch?

The scoreboard is not on a knife's edge but the game feels like it is.

  8. Aus 2-0published at 3.2 overs

England are all over the Australia openers all of a sudden!

Stuart Broad cuts David Warner in half with the first delivery of the over, the next one nips away to beat the edge.

The crowd is up now! Can England find the breakthrough?

It was an away-swinger but with more wobble seam, that is so close to off stump. There is plenty happening for this England team. The game can be back on if Australia have 150 with four down.

  10. Aus 2-0published at 3 overs

    So close!

Very full from Jimmy Anderson and he beats Usman Khawaja all ends up! The ball shapes away then nips back off the seam to beat the inside edge.

Nearly an edge, not far from off stump. That is a jaffa from Anderson!

Good over from Stuart Broad. Another maiden and he really probed away around David Warner's off stump.

England need to turn this decent early pressure into wickets.

Beauty! Stuart Broad, round the wicket to David Warner.

The ball angles in towards off stump and then nips away to beat the edge.

That's what the crowd want to see. Ideally, with a nick next time...

No regrets about how I got out - Duckett

A lot of what's been said on here this morning, both for and against England's approach, has been very fair. What I find more worrying is the 'beyond reproach' / 'never complain, never explain' mentality of the dressing room. It feels like any sort of criticism of poor strokes and dropped catches is packaged up as 'anti-Bazball' by the team and its advocates. I think we'd all draw comfort from a bit of introspection from Stokes acknowledging that the execution hasn't quite been there, rather than this interminable 'it's how we play' justification

Stuart Broad will start from the Pavilion End. It's a change of ends from the two England stalwarts from the first innings.

After five shaping away from the left-hander, Jimmy Anderson ends with the one that comes back in.

Usman Khawaja is able to defend solidly, though. Maiden to start.

  19. Aus 0-0published at 0.3 overs

No major concerns for Usman Khawaja yet but there is some gentle swing for Jimmy Anderson with the new ball.

  20. How's stat?!published at 12:40 British Summer Time 30 June 2023

A few numbers from our friends at CricViz ahead of Australia's second innings...

    • Steve Smith needs just nine runs in the second innings to score 500 runs at Lord's - he will become just the fourth Australian to do so
    • Marnus Labuschagne needs exactly 50 runs to pass 500 runs for the calendar year Usman Khawaja, Smith and Travis Head have already passed this milestone this year
    • David Warner needs just one run in the second innings to score 2000 Ashes runs
