Ollie Robinson needs to get that extra bit of zip in this second innings. England all bowl at about 80/81 and they need to bowl quicker. Josh Tongue is the point of difference. Australia have four who can all bowl quicker.

  2. Warner on the movepublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 30 June 2023

David Warner has been batting so far out of his crease to James Anderson and Stuart Broad. A sign of declining pace from England's legendary bowlers?

  3. Aus 30-0published at 13 overs

That was a tough chance but really should have been taken. I think Anderson may have struggled to pick it up in the Lord's gloom.

England have little margin for error so they cannot afford to gift the batters second chances.

There is also a bowling change at the other end as Ollie Robinson comes into the attack.

It was hit hard, but Jimmy's got such a good pair of hands as well. I don't think he's seen that.

  5. dropped catch

Khawaja dropped on 19published at 12.2 overs

Oh no, Usman Khawaja should be on his way!

It is short from Josh Tongue and Khawaja pulls straight to James Anderson at midwicket, but it bursts through his fingers and races away for four.

Change of bowling - let's see what the extra pace of Josh Tongue can bring.

  7. Aus 26-0published at 12 overs

Stuart Broad livens up the crowd with two good deliveries that fizz past David Warner's outside edge.

Broad then attempts to catch Warner out with a slow, fuller delivery but Warner gets his bat down in time.

That was another good over from Broad.

  9. Aus 26-0published at 11 overs

David Warner is batting way, way out his crease to James Anderson, who gets one to jag back in and come off a thick inside edge for a single.

Anderson has not been as threatening as he was immediately before the lunch break.

England have lured these Australian openers into the odd false shot, but they have led to nothing more than half-chances so far.

I'm trying to keep an open mind, however difficult, on the effectiveness of England's style of play, but if we were determined to be aggressive and on the front foot, we would have opened the bowling with Josh Tongue. Some things are still very conservative and traditional, even in the Bazball era...

    Lead by 116

Stuart Broad changes approach and goes over the wicket to Usman Khawaja, who blocks out the rest of the over.

It is very gloomy at Lord's right now. Perhaps reflective of the England's supporters' mood.

  13. Aus 25-0published at 9.1 overs

    Shot.

Usman Khawaja leans into a drive and the ball races through mid-off and away for four.

Anything over 300 to chase is going to be tricky to chase, but it is possible. There's 64 overs left today in these conditions. I'd say England have to bowl out Australia today. If Australia are still in tomorrow, England will probably have a chase of something more like 400.

  15. Aus 21-0published at 9 overs

    Lead by 112

Ohh, James Anderson, going around the wicket to David Warner, gets one to spit up off a length and Warner takes evasive action.

    Encouragement for England.

Broad was back to his 'giving David Warner nightmares' best this morning. More of the same please, Stuart...

it has been a good start from England after lunch but a lot of people haven't returned to their seats - far more than this time yesterday.

  18. Aus 21-0published at 8 overs

There's a break in play as a member of the ground staff comes out to spray over some white lines near his take-off point with some green paint.

You can still see them, Stuart.

Anyway, Usman Khawaja helps himself to four by flicking a leg-side delivery away to the rope.

This England side talk into a different language to any other Test team ever. They would probably say they wanted to get bowled out this morning and have a bowl.

Stuart Broad is doing really well, he took an awful blow to the jaw. He will be sore for a while, I can't imagine how he will wake up in the morning.

  20. Aus 17-0published at 7.1 overs

Stuart Broad finds the edge of Usman Khawaja's bat but the ball falls just short of Zak Crawley's diving outstretched left hand in the slips.

    More frustration for England.
