A declaration by Australia before tea would only be fair, all things considered.

It would be the entertaining thing to do!

Frustration but encouragement there for Josh Tongue. He is once again the man who makes things happen for England.

Because Labuschagne bats on off stump, the umpire will feel he is covering the stumps so it is going to be close, it was a good two or three inches outside.

The impact was outside the line. Marnus Labuschagne survives!

Josh Tongue traps Marnus Labuschagne in front and it is given!

Labuschagne has a chat with Usman Khawaja before deciding to review.

    Height an issue?

For whatever reason, when the floodlights are on, it feels like the ball does more and as a batter, it is tougher. The first three balls Labuschagne faced were right on the stumps.

Josh Tongue has now dismissed David Warner twice this match.

  8. Aus 67-1published at 26 overs

Ollie Robinson bowls around the wicket to Usman Khawaja and finally finds the edge, but Khawaja plays with soft hands and the ball falls short of Ben Duckett in the slips.

Robinson looks to the heavens. He has been pretty luckless this innings.

After all those years seeing him as England's tormentor in chief and 5-0 predictor extraordinaire I was most upset to find out that Glenn McGrath is a lovely bloke - who very kindly recorded a message at Lord's the other day wishing my godson Jack and his teammates at Whitgift the best of luck in their cup final against Manchester Grammar in a couple of weeks. Good on y'a Glenn!

Marnus Labuschagne gets off the mark with a push into the gap on the leg side for three. Josh Tongue then bangs in a bouncer that Usman Khawaja does well to evade.

The two umpires have a chat at the end of the over. Could it be about the light? It is gloomy but does not seem to have got much worse than it has been for the last hour or so.

There is a possibility of a shower too this afternoon but it is dry for now.

Marnus Labuschagne is the new batter. The crowd has awoken from its post-lunch slumber.

England needed that, they needed something to go their way today. That ball just straightened. I'm surprised David Warner appealed that straight away. It looked out from here.

    Nope. Relief for England!

Josh Tongue just got one to nip in to David Warner who reviewed instantly, but the replays showed the ball was going on to hit the top of leg stump.

Josh Tongue traps David Warner lbw - but Warner immediately reviews.

    Is this sliding down leg?

It's been a tough old day for England, they are yet to break through. There's not a lot of energy out there, they are going through the motions a bit.

There’s weariness among the commentators as Australia press on. Steve Finn has had a nap between stints. There’s one or two knowing looks as well.

  18. Aus 63-0published at 24 overs

Ben Stokes puts his hands on his knees and shakes his head as David Warner opens the face and guides the ball down the third man. Warner has a huge grin on his face as the ball trundles over the rope, summing up the match situation right now.

That sums up the match situation too - Ollie Robinson has bowled yet another brilliant delivery that bounces and seams away from Warner but somehow evades the outside edge.

Rehan Ahmed and Chris Woakes are the sub fielders by the way, with Stuart Broad and Ollie Pope off the field for treatment.

Australia are being patient and picking off the bad balls at the moment, with Usman Khawaja hammering a full Josh Tongue delivery through mid-on for four.

Ollie Robinson continues over the wicket to the two left-handers as David Warner pushes at the ball outside the off stump, but it is always going downwards and away from the slip cordon.

It is around about now I start looking to see if there is any rain that can help England out a bit.
