  1. Aus 260-7published at 94 overs

    Lead by 351

Stuart Broad bangs it in to Pat Cummins who fends the ball in the air, but it loops over Joe Root at short leg and lands short of James Anderson at mid-wicket.

Cummins plays another short one later in the over much more comfortably and Australia run a single.

You've got arguably the top two teams in test cricket, both espousing different styles, both oscillating between unbelievable class and utterly dossing about. This is everything we asked for and better. Bravo.

I get it. I understand the stats but 4 short balls an over is dull. Dull for the fans and eventually dull enough for the best players in the world who eventually swipe at it. Bazball is about entertainment. And if it's this. I don't want it.

  5. Aus 259-7published at 93 overs

    Lead by 350

Ben Stokes is frustrated as umpire Ahsan Raza calls wide. I did not look much higher than any of the other bouncers we have seen this afternoon.

Change of bowling at the other end. Here comes Stuart Broad.

  6. Aus 257-7published at 92.2 overs

Would you believe it. Pat Cummins top-edges straight to point....but Ben Stokes overstepped!

Stokes knew it straight away. Cummins survives.

This is how England's short-ball tactics finally snared the wicket of Cameron Green.

  9. Aus 256-7published at 92 overs

    Lead by 347

A wild short one from Ollie Robinson fizzes down the leg side for four byes. Jonny Bairstow didn't have a chance there.

Ben Stokes will continue for a successive 10th over. It is turning into one of his mammoth spells.

If England would chase this down, it would require the biggest ever fourth innings run chase in a Test at Lord's. When West Indies scored 344-1 in 1984, they were set 342 and England now need more than that.

This was a good method by Cummins, because he opens the blade and guides it over the cover line. This is the exactly same field that Harry Brook had.

  12. Aus 252-7published at 91 overs

    Lead by 343

Ben Stokes will continue for the ninth over of this spell as Pat Cummins shows attacking intent by backing away and cutting the ball through backward point for four.

Cummins backs away the next ball but Stokes follows him and the ball smacks into his body. They both share a laugh.

This has turned into a fascinating one v one battle.

If England can get these last two wickets, I'm not sure Nathan Lyon can bat, 337 feels alright in terms of a chase. Another 30 runs, it's so important these wickets come quickly.

  14. Aus 246-7published at 90 overs

Pat Cummins is the new batter to join Mitchel Starc...and he hits a boundary! Helped around the corner through fine leg.

What a bizarre session this has been.

The short stuff in this match has so far got 11-166, everything else has got 11-657.

Travis Head and Alex Carey have played these bouncers terribly. The argument is, what's the best way of getting out to the short ball, going defensive or being aggressive, I think I'd rather see them be more aggressive.

It's a lollipop catch for Joe Root. Straight forward as you like.

Bowl short. Get a wicket. Easy.

Ollie Robinson bangs one in to Alex Carey, who gloves it to Joe Root at short leg for a simple catch.

England might have shown what happens when you're too aggressive against the short ball but Australia are showing what happens when you're too passive. The scoreboard goes nowhere and you end up getting out anyway.
