Anybody watch Big Train the other day? (kids - Google it) Because this match was beginning to resemble the World Stareout Championships before that Cameron Green wicket.

Suddenly though there is a bit of life about it as Mitchell Starc just about evades a viscous Ben Ben Stokes bouncer.

The crowd liked that and the cheer Stokes in for the rest of the over.

That was the eighth over of Stokes' spell, not sure if he will return for a ninth, though.

If it wasn't for the newly acquired feeling of dread in my stomach every time Australia bowl a short bowl at England, the thought of Root and Stokes trying to chase 400 to level the series on a flat Lord's pitch would be mouth watering. Roll on day 5, whatever happens it's going to be exciting!

  3. Aus 240-6published at 88 overs

Mitchell Starc is the new batter. He stands up to a short one from Ollie Robinson and the ball smacks him on the shoulder. That looked painful.

He plays the second delivery better, pushing the ball into the on side for a single.

I think Green was feeling sorry for the crowd and wanted to give them something. The one he has a dart at gets him out.

  5. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 87.3 overs

    Green c Duckett b Robinson 18 (Aus 239-6)

Ha ha. The short ball worked!

Ollie Robinson bangs it in short and Cameron Green bites, pulling the ball to Ben Duckett on the square leg boundary.

    Would you believe it.

Are England time wasting for a draw?

    John, London

England don't do draws, John. They've been very clear about that...

Since lunch, Ollie Robinson has bowled six overs, five maidens and given away just two runs.

  8. Aus 239-5published at 87 overs

A single! That has woken the scorers up.

That will wake Alex Carey up. An absolute brute of a ball from Ben Stokes that Carey does well to evade.

The crowd liked that too as they cheer Stokes in for the next ball - That's the nosiest they have been for a while

  9. Aus 238-5published at 86 overs

Still no new ball by the way.

It is a battle of wills as England persist with the short stuff and Australia refuse to engage.

    Who will blink first?

  11. West Indies are out of the 2023 World Cuppublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 1 July 2023

The West Indies will not be at the 2023 World Cup in India. A seven-wicket defeat to Scotland in their Super Six group game today in Harare has confirmed that this October's World Cup will be the first without the West Indies in it. Scotland have a chance of still qualifying, but need to catch one of Sri Lanka or Zimbabwe in their remaining qualifying matches.

Do England really need wickets here? The way I see it is we slow them down, wait for the Aussies to declare without enough on the board and knock them off in 50 overs!

We were just having a similar conversation in the office, Sean.

Another maiden as the game continues to grind along. Cameron Green is in the wars again as the physio comes out to apply a bit of magic spray to his finger.

Green is fine and we are able to continue.

  15. Aus 238-5published at 84.1 overs

    Lead by 329

Cameron Green does finally go for the short ball but misses his attempted pull and the ball smacks him right on the front of the helmet.

Green looks okay but the physio will come out for a concussion check.

The Aussies have decided to go with the tactic of dodging and weaving. They've got a 40-run partnership and they are just edging towards a lead they will be happy with. England need to take a wicket soon because they are wasting time for themselves if they don't.

  17. Aus 238-5published at 84 overs

No drama for Australia as Ollie Robinson bowls another maiden. This match is grinding to a halt.

The only issue is that England need to take wickets and fast.

  19. Aus 238-5published at 83 overs

Still no new ball as a leg side delivery from Ben Stokes is tucked around the corner for a single. Another bouncer then keeps low, forcing Alex Carey to do the Limbo to evade it.

Australia, now leading by 329, can afford to just nudge the singles and punish the bad balls.

It's amazing how cricket evolves in games. Both teams have fallen upon a tactic and stuck with it. You go to your stats guy and see what is working. It's a case of who blinks first? You can still use this tactic with a newer ball.
