This short ball tactic to Travis Head is causing problems for the bowlers. We've struggled to switch between Head and Marsh and have given too many short freebies to marsh, and we're not getting it short enough to Head. The ball is nipping here, we should be getting Head to nick off rather than treat him like Bradman.

    Jack

Based on that last over, I can't see England changing the plan to Travis Head anytime soon, Jack...

I always talk about match practice but the three players that haven't been playing are doing well.

Mark Wood looks electric, Chris Woakes is bowling well and Mitch Marsh, who hasn't played any cricket, is going well.

We are in era now where players can just come in. I wonder if that is because practice facilities are better now.

Travis Head is still there but looking incredibly unsure when the ball is banged in short.

At the other end, Mitchell Marsh is going along nicely. Between them, they've added 62 for the fifth wicket.

England just need to keep plugging away, they're not bowling badly, there is some assistance for the seamers. Patience is the key as they go to drinks.

Mitch Marsh's half-century came off 59 balls with two sixes and six fours.

It is sixth 50-plus score in 33 Tests. He has generally struggled but has two centuries.

Before today, in England he has scored 89 runs in six innings in four Tests.

This is only his fifth first-class match in almost four years.

A happy return to the Test side for Mitchell Marsh as he brings up his half-century from 59 balls.

He was given a life on 12 and has made the most of it to help take Australia out of trouble.

England will continue to bowl short at Travis Head because it does look like a mistake could come off any shot.

  10. Aus 145-4published at 37.2 overs

Short of actually giving a catch, Travis Head could not be giving England anymore encouragement to bowl short at him.

He plays and misses again at an Ollie Robinson delivery outside off. It didn't seem particularly threatening but Head made it look that way!

Short boundary? It's gone 20 rows back, Jim!

That is a tremendous strike. It was a sharp bouncer and it is a hell of a shot.

Short next ball and Mitchell Marsh is waiting for it.

He nails the pull shot and the ball sails over the ropes for six!

That is brilliant bowling. They've just put the square leg fielder out so Mitch Marsh may well have been expecting the bouncer.

    Close!

Mark Wood sends down a 93mph yorker and his arms start to come up in celebration before Mitchell Marsh jams his bat down in the nick of time.

The Aussies are having a good second session.

Joe Root's chance was as easy as they come.

I wonder what par is? 300? It's done enough and there is pace in the pitch.

A very good over from Ollie Robinson is ruined somewhat by a short, wide one that Mitchell Marsh slashes away for four.

That brings up the fifty partnership for the fifth wicket.

Prior to that Robinson had produced a beauty that swung away late to beat the advancing Marsh.

    It is doing enough.

There is enough bounce and carry, that is what you want so any edges carry comfortably to the slips.

    There is natural variation.

    Nope. Nothing doing.

It missed Mitchell Marsh's bat by a distance and just dollied up off the pad.

The impact was well outside the line, too, so it's not lbw either. England lose a review.
