This has a Steve Smith century written all over it.
Harri
Hello!
Chris Woakes drops a tad short and Steve Smith just effortlessly pulls over square leg for six.
He wasn't remotely troubled by that short ball.

I’d love to tell you more about that Labuschagne wicket but I had my face in a cake delivered to the TMS box that Dan Norcross had just labelled the best cake ever made.

Former England bowler on BBC Test Match Special
If you've got Mark Wood in the side and you know Travis Head has difficulty against the short ball then I'd like to see him bowling.
Travis Head takes on the pull shot, and Joe Root, at fine leg, doesn't quite pick it up in time so the left-hander picks up four.
It's time for Mark Wood again now, surely?

Marnus Labuschagne looked absolutely furious with himself as he made his way back into the pavilion, shaking his head animatedly as he looked at the replay of his dismissal on the big screen.
I doubt you will be surprised to hear that he was given a typically warm Headingley send-off by the England fans as he reached the boundary rope.
Erm. This may irritate a lot of you.
Travis Head has only faced three balls, but England have already spread the field.
There's no slip catchers, and the field are all over the ground.
They are going to go short at Head by the looks of it.

Memo to England - Now is the time to FINISH THEM OFF!!!
Mike
Oh, shot.
A tad floaty from Chris Woakes and Travis Head drives through mid-off for four.
A lovely way to get off the mark.

I'd be tempted to bring Mark Wood on here, especially while the ball is still new.

England needed that, absolutely at the right time. Just when Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne were looking that they were going to get set.
It will be interesting if England will change up their tactic and go for a short ball.
Labuschagne c Root b Woakes 21 (Aus 61-3)
Another one! England are on top.
Marnus Labuschagne is squared up again by Chris Woakes and a little bit of extra bounce draws the edge.
The ball just loops gently to Joe Root at first slip, who takes a simple catch.
The crowd are loving it now.

James: Foakes. That is all.
Dan Gee: Here comes the Foakes tweets...or Threads.
Dan has his finger on the pulse.
England have bowled really well so far.
They were off the pace at Lord's on the first morning but they've been much more on it here.

That's a sort of catch that if you're going to win the game you really have to take.

Those ones are always tough to take, Bairstow just got his fingertips on it!
Aus 57-2
Jonny Bairstow has shelled another!
It's a tough one for Bairstow admittedly, as he sees it late, but you can't afford to drop Steve Smith.
Ollie Robinson cuts Smith in half, and a thick inside edge flies through, and Bairstow, who was late to move, can only tip it round the corner and away for four.
The TV pictures have just shown us three lads sat on the roof of a house to watch the game.
One of them looks like he could fall off at any moment. Careful.
Glenn McGrath
Ex-Australia bowler on BBC Test Match Special
So far we have seen consistent bounce on this pitch so you can be confident leaving the ball on length.
