Khawaja b Wood 13 (Aus 42-2)
Bowled him! Leg stump is sent cartwheeling!
This is absolutely superb from Mark Wood.
It is full, and obviously fast, but there's a little bit of movement and it goes through Usman Khawaja and hits middle and leg stump.
Good luck playing that at 95mph, Usman.
What a spell from Wood!
Runs off the bat off Mark Wood. It has taken 23 deliveries but he drops wide and Usman Khawaja is able to cut away for a couple.

"That was like Thommo," said one of the Australian journalists in the media centre after that Mark Wood over.
An England bowler compared to Jeff Thomson.
High praise indeed.
Marnus Labuschagne is quite happy to let Usman Khawaja face Mark Wood based on this.
He leaves two deliveries outside off stump and then shoulders arms to one that swings in and hits him on the thigh.
Wood v Khawaja coming up for the first time.

Mark Wood has bowled three maiden overs.
This is his second quickest recorded spell. Only Wood has beaten that at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where he averaged 95.5mph. The previous over was 93.3mph.
This is very fast indeed.
Want to watch Mark Wood bowl at 96.5mph?
You're in luck...

Rob Meech: Mark Wood is bowling rockets. Pundits talk about having a point of difference in an attack (it’s almost become a cliche) and Wood epitomes that. Asks totally different questions of a batsman’s technique and ticker
Olly Moore: Mark Wood just adds an extra dimension to the attack. Elastic pace and you can see the batsmen less sure of themselves. Point of difference.
Greg Double: This is going to be one of those "we should have picked Mark Wood earlier" days, isn't it?
He wasn't fully fit to play at Lord's, Greg.
Oooh!
Mark Wood squares Marnus Labuschagne up a bit, but it slides past the outside edge.
Does Joe Root have a little word with Labuschagne there?
Maybe he's wishing him luck...

A very attacking field from a very attacking bowler. I like this from Ben Stokes.
Good luck stopping that, Jonny.
A short Wood delivery absolutely flies over Marnus Labuschagne and Jonny Bairstow.
Byes for that might be a bit harsh. Bairstow had no chance.

Root’s fielding position for Wood much better described as a short third man.

Jofra Archer's quickest over average during the 2019 series averaged to 93mph. Wood's average for that previous over was just over 93 mph and he just clocked 96.5mph in the ninth over.
Back to Mark Wood...
Strap yourselves in.
That's lovely from Usman Khawaja.
The left-hander just leans on a straight drive and it races away for four more.
You really sense that England need him quickly.
Another change for England.
Chris Woakes, playing his first Test since March 2022, comes on for Ollie Robinson.

That last ball was terrific cricket, great pace from Wood and full face of the blade from Marnus Labuschagne too. That's great Test match cricket.

Labuschagne is not enjoying Mark Wood's bowling at the moment...rabbit in the headlights!
Tom, London
Is Mark Wood the fastest England bowler ever? Anyone see Trueman or Snow or another to be able to offer a fan view?
Robert in Billericay
Have one eye on the Scotland game and another on the ashes - Mark Wood exactly the kind of pace England have been missing!

Just spotted Merv Hughes walking along the concourse in the Western Terrace. He was wearing a white sun hat with a yellow Australia cap on top of it.
I thought it best not to question his fashion choices.
Play that! A lovely delivery has Marnus Labuschagne nibbling as it seams past the outside edge.
Back-to-back maidens to start from Mark Wood.
Every delivery was above 90mph again.
