Wood just gave everything he got he was exceptional. Woakes could've easily got more wickets too and those two haven't played in the series before.

Bowling at 95mph is something you're born with, you can't teach that and that was amazing.

  2. 'A great feeling to take five wickets'published at 18:39 British Summer Time 6 July 2023

England bowler Mark Wood speaking to Sky Sports: "It is an amazing day. It was a great feeling to take five wickets. It was the first time in front of my mm and dad so I'm delighted.

"We're in a good position. We felt a couple of wickets away, but Mitch Marsh played fantastically well and was difficult to bowl at.

"When he was in it felt like the ball lost the zip off the wicket, but when a new batter came in it was tough again.

"The outfield is rock hard and rapid and we can score quickly if the lads get in.

"I haven't played a Test in the while but to come back fairly fresh and produce that was pretty special. I was really happy to show I could do it in home conditions as well."

There is no way of knowing what would have happened if a chance had been caught rather than dropped. The whole pattern of the game would be different. Players might play differently. If Head had been caught, Smith might have gone on to make 200. If Marsh had been caught, Carey might have scored more. The only situation you know for certain is the situation you're in.

There is a bit of a nervy hum around Headingley now. I think the fans will be relieved if England can escape to close without any further damage.

Australia, three chances and three wickets. England have to bowl fourteen balls to take 10 wickets. Glenn McGrath correctly points out Australia should have been out for 120. As wonderfully as England and Wood have bowled you cannot field so abysmally and expect to compete at this level.
