Stuart Broad twiddles with the distinctive sweat band around his head as he makes a few tweaks to the field.

He is at the top of his mark. Mitch Marsh has just taken his guard.

A more conventional field in place.

Thankfully, we're going to have another go at it. England have a real opportunity to put a dent in Australia's second innings.

Ben Stokes has led his players back out on to the field. There are still a few spots of rain around, but we should be back under way shortly.

That brief spell of play allowed me to get a first proper look at some of the fancy dress in the Western Terrace.

There are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, popes, lifeguards, wrestlers, several chickens and a giant pig.

Still drizzling here a mile west of Headingley. Hoping it heads west not east.

I was a bit confused at the bouncers, the overhead conditions. It was made for seam bowling, a gully, no slips. I can understand the thinking, but sometimes something called the weather goes in your favour and you have to use it. After two or three balls, you get used to it. I'm not sure what the thinking was.

Would you like a statistical analysis of the day so far? Six balls, two runs, four bouncers.

Understandable boos from the crowd as the umpires call the players in, but it is pretty persistent rain now.

  14. Aus 118-4published at 48 overs

Chris Woakes strikes Travis Head on the pad with the final ball of the over. The crowd appeal vociferously from the stands but the players know the Aussie batter has got an big chunk of bat on that.

  15. Aus 118-4published at 48.4 overs

The crowd are roaring Chris Woakes as he bounds into his delivery stride.

He presents the seam beautifully to Mitch Marsh with his fourth ball which the Aussie left-hander dabs for a single in the covers.

I haven’t seen Ben Stokes do this in the series. He brought his players together for a huddle by the pitch as the Barmy Army sang.

This is their Ashes hopes right here, isn’t it?

Wooosh. A bouncer from Chris Woakes swings after it flies over the head of Travis Head.

Jonny Bairstow dives full length to his left to prevent the byes.

Travis Head takes guard. Chris Woakes at the top of his mark.

We've been waiting since 11:00 and nearly six hours later the umpires say "play".

Oh dear, don't bowl short! You've got perfect seam bowling conditions. Is that right? What is the point? You can't get better bowling conditions than this.
