  1. Overton vs Overton - the final act?published at 17:14 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Somerset 170 & 195-9 v Surrey 368

There's still time for another round of Overton vs Overton at Taunton, where Jamie has come back on to try and dismiss his brother for the second time in the match.

Craig takes a boundary, then plays and misses at a couple more - and somehow Somerset have got themselves within three runs of making Surrey bat again.

  2. 50 runs

for Phil Saltpublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Lancashire 332-2 v Northamptonshire

This has been a terrific cameo so far from Phil Salt.

Only 35 balls needed to get to a half century and he is providing real impetus for this Lancashire innings.

  3. 100 runs

for Josh Bohannonpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Lancashire 326-2 v Northamptonshire 342

Josh Bohannon pulls one away off the part-time bowling of Justin Broad to reach three figures.

This has been a very Bohannon-like innings, busy at the crease and he has scored at a good tempo with his off 143 balls.

It is a second 100 of the season and the eighth of his first-class career.

  4. Division Two round-uppublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

Still 30 overs left today at Cheltenham College - and Worcestershire may have turned this game on its head after those three Gloucestershire wickets either side of tea.

The loss of Joe Phillips, Miles Hammond and James Bracey inside five overs for the addition of just two runs has piled the pressure on the hosts.

The Price brothers - Ollie and Tom - are doing their best to repair the damage as they chase the whopping great Worcestershire total of 406 - a massive total having at one stage yesterday been 119-5.

Meanwhile, Glamorgan have enforced the Derbyshire follow-on.

The hosts' final four wickets went down in a bit of a hurry - Alex Thomson, Tom Wood, Zak Chappell and George Scrimshaw in the space of 19 balls, for just two runs - as they were bowled out for 318.

Two of those wickets for Andy Gorvin, who was also responsible for the run-out of Scrimshaw.

Having been asked to bat again, Derbyshire openers Harry Came and Luis Reece are back out there again for the second time today, looking for at least a repeat of their first-innings efforts when they shared that stand of 165.

  5. Postpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Somerset 170 & 174-9 v Surrey 368

Craig Overton has blasted his way to 23 as he goes out in a blaze of glory.

Surrey want this over and Rory Burns and Dom Sibley won't want to be inconvenienced by having to bat again.

    The deficit is 24.

  6. Postpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 24-0 v Kent 316

Brisk start by the Nottinghamshire openers, who are looking to stretch their lead over Kent as quickly as possible.

Arshdeep Singh has just been carted for two boundaries in an over, one of them a handsome straight drive from Haseeb Hameed.

Hameed has nine so far, with Ben Slater on 15.

  7. 300 runs

up for Lancashirepublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Lancashire 301-2 v Northamptonshire 342

Lancashire have resumed with their foot on the accelerator.

Phil Salt has raced to 30 off 24 balls and Josh Bohannon is into the 90s.

There are still 31 overs left today. If they go at five an over as they have been doing today they can set up a fourth day push for victory.

  8. Middlesex win moves them closer to safetypublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Middlesex (199 & 97-2, 19 pts) beat Warwickshire (60 & 232, 3 pts) by eight wickets

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

This will go a long way to help Middlesex maintain their Division One status especially after a frustrating couple of rounds against bottom of the table Northamptonshire and top of the table London neighbours Surrey.

The scores-level draw against Northants felt like a defeat in a game they really needed to win. And defending champions Surrey are top of the table for a reason.

But Warwickshire had a game in hand on the three teams at the top, with aspirations to challenge, so to win at Edgbaston should help shake off any doubts or nerves ahead of the four remaining games in September, which include another meeting with the Bears at Lord's.

All eyes now on Kent to see what they can do at Trent Bridge. A defeat and Middx are out of the relegation zone, a win and Nottinghamshire are dragged into the scrap and Middx remain second bottom.

Their last game of the season? A trip to Trent Bridge!

  9. Postpublished at 16:35 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 6-0 v Kent 316

Nottinghamshire's second innings is under way after tea and Ben Slater and Haseeb Hameed have increased their side's lead to 40.

Weather permitting, we'll have a total of 41 overs in this evening session, so the home side could realistically hope for a sizeable advantage by stumps.

Equally, if the Kent bowlers can make inroads they may yet be the team forcing the pace. To some extent a draw suits both sides - but Middlesex's win at Edgbaston could change that line of thinking.

    Somerset 170 & 149-9 v Surrey 368

It's four and out for Matt Henry!

The New Zealander never hangs around and not here either!

First ball, he hooks one down to fine leg for four. Second, he walks across his stumps and is as plumb as plumb can be.

The end is nigh and that is the last we will see of Henry in a Somerset shirt this season.

WICKET Rew c Lawes b Atkinson 55published at 16:31 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Somerset 170 & 145-8 v Surrey 368

Never mind 7pm, Surrey could have this done by 5!

The last proper resistance in James Rew is over as the teenager falls into a leg trap, caught at fine leg.

  12. Du Plooy passes 1,000 runs for the seasonpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Glamorgan 521-8 dec, Derbyshire 309-6

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Four wickets in a session has proved a relatively decent haul for the bowlers in this match as Glamorgan gave themselves a faint hope of being able to dictate the closing stages without declaration agreements, despite a fine 131 from Luis Reece who reached three figures moments after lunch.

Derbyshire's departing captain Leus Du Plooy, on 981 first-class runs, raced to his 1,000 runs for the season with some fluent off-drives and Reece accelerated to match his captain's intent before top-edging a sweep at Swepson for David Lloyd to claim a diving slip catch.

The dangerous Du Plooy edged Jamie McIlroy behind on 42, and Haider Ali (20) gave Chris Cooke and Van der Gugten their third victim each.

Anuj Dal provided an incident-packed cameo as he was missed by two slip fielders, Colin Ingram and Sam Northeast, off the same ball as both appeared to get hands to it, before collecting a six thanks to overthrows. But he could not profit further as he was caught behind off McIlroy for 11.

  13. Postpublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Somerset 170 & 142-7 v Surrey 368

We could have another 36 overs this evening at Taunton.

Surrey must be confident they will be back on the M4 to London by 7pm with 22 points and a Championship win in their pockets.

    Gloucs 118-3 v Worcs 406

That's a pretty successful - if elongated - over for Worcestershire's Joe Leach.

Having dismissed teenager Joe Phillips for an excellent 80 to signal the tea interval, he then removes Miles Hammond for a duck three balls after the resumption, caught at second slip.

  16. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Lancashire 276-2 v Northamptonshire

There ends a dominant session for Lancashire.

155 runs scored off 32.5 overs for the loss of Luke Wells and they only trail Northants by 66 runs.

There are 35 overs scheduled for the final session and with Josh Bohannon and Phil Salt at the crease, they will look to score quickly again.

    Notts 350 v Kent 316

Calvin Harrison (Notts)Image source, Rex Features

Last man Arafat Bhuiyan didn't detain us long - one ball, in fact, as he pads up to Calvin Harrison and is given out leg before.

Harrison, who has just signed a new contract with Nottinghamshire, finishes with his best County Championship figures of 4-28 and he'll be on a hat-trick in Kent's second innings.

The home side have a first-innings lead of 34 and they'll look to build on that after tea.

  18. Tea at Tauntonpublished at 16:02 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Somerset 170 & 139-7 v Surrey

Somerset make it to tea albeit in a huge amount of trouble.

They are 59 runs away from even making Surrey bat a second time. The Champions have been super today.

It would be astonishing if this is not the last break of the match.

  19. wicket

WICKET Arshdeep c James b Harrison 5published at 16:01 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Notts 350 v Kent 316-9

Arshdeep Singh was never likely to spend his time blocking - and he makes five runs from five balls before holing out to the deep midwicket boundary.

That's a third wicket for Calvin Harrison.

  20. 50 runs

for James Rewpublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Somerset 170 & 134-7 v Surrey 368

The Rew machine keeps on chugging along.

Wickets are tumbling at the other end, but he remains.

This is only a second fifty this season, but as Surrey will know, once he gets in, he is very difficult to dislodge.
