    Notts 350 v Kent 254-5

Joey Evison's back on familiar turf at Trent Bridge and he certainly isn't hanging around, reaching 20 not out at a run a ball.

Evison's already pummelled Dane Paterson for six over square leg and also has three fours to his name, steering Kent to their first batting bonus point.

WICKET Reece c Lloyd b Swepson 131published at 14:46 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Derbys 239-3 v Glamorgan 521-8 dec

Todd Murphy isn't the only Australian spinner to pick up a wicket today! Mitchell Swepson has one too, for Glamorgan.

Swepson brings a fine knock by Luis Reece to an end, the left-hander top-edging a sweep that looped up for David Lloyd, at slip, to dive forward and pluck the ball out of the air.

  3. Essex coach hails 'incredible effort' to beat Hampshirepublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

Essex (19pts) beat Hampshire (3pts) by six wickets

Essex head coach Anthony McGrath rated his side’s six-wicket triumph against Hampshire as ‘an incredible effort’ given their injury problems.

Overseas player Doug Bracewell was ruled out ahead of the game, while seamer Shane Snater pulled up injured inside the first hour and was unable to bowl for the remainder of the match.

“To play with 10 men from pretty much straight away and come away on the right side is an incredible effort,” said McGrath.

“I think it is up there with one of our best wins. We also had two guys go down overnight with sickness, (Paul) Walter and (Matt) Critchley, so we really were down to bare bones.

“I’m proud of the guys. It is still in Surrey’s hands but we will do everything we can to try and chase them down.”

    Lancashire 165-1 v Northamptonshire 342

Josh Bohannon and Luke Wells have been relatively untroubled so far this afternoon.

But Wells has his heart in his mouth as he slog sweeps Alex Russell.

Will it be six or out? It's neither, as Sam Whiteman can't hang on from his position on the fence, but he throws the ball back to prevent a six.

Wells gets two and that is the 50 partnership between these two.

  5. MIDDLESEX BEAT WARWICKSHIRE AT EDGBASTONpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Middlesex (199 & 97-2, 19 pts) beat Warwickshire (60 & 232, 3 pts) by eight wickets

Middlesex complete their third victory of the season as they wrap up an eight-wicket win over Warwickshire.

Effectively, virtually a two-day win, given the amount of time lost in the game.

But it is now a five-week break from red-ball cricket before the Championship resumes on 3 September when both face tough welcome-back fixtures against the top two.

The Bears meet Surrey at The Oval, then, 24 hours later, Middlesex start their four-day game with Essex at Chelmsford.

  9. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Lancashire 148-1 v Northamptonshire 342

Josh Bohannon comes down the pitch to Alex Russell and hits it just through the diving fingers of Emilio Gay at mid-on and races down for four.

This is being churlish, but that maybe counts as a chance, although it would have been a sublime flying catch.

The next ball is a full toss and Bohannon helps himself to four more.

WICKET Blake lbw b Hutton 30published at 14:26 British Summer Time 27 July 2023

    Notts 350 v Kent 218-5

Not a bad response by Brett Hutton to that Harry Finch boundary - just two balls later, he gets one swinging back at Alex Blake to remove the left-hander lbw.

That's the end of a fifth-wicket partnership that realised 61 and brings Joey Evison out to join Finch.

Great way for Harry Finch to bring up his half-century, driving Brett Hutton past mid-off for his seventh boundary.

Finch gets there from 118 balls and it's the third time he's passed the landmark in as many Championship fixtures.

With the rain clearing, they've restarted on time after lunch and Kent have wasted no time in bringing their total above 200.

Alex Blake has looked to attack anything loose, pumping Steven Mullaney for a boundary to reach 24 not out from 21 balls, while Harry Finch has advanced to 40.

Meanwhile, Kent have announced the signing of Australian all-rounder James Bazley, who will be available for the whole of the One-Day Cup - a trophy they will be defending next month.
