    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 47-2

Just under 10 minutes to lunch at Old Trafford.

Lancashire would love to winkle out one more before then.

  2. wicket

WICKET Geddes c Slater b Paterson 1published at 12:52 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts v Kent 7-2 (target 407)

    Nottinghamshire have a second wicket!

Ben Geddes is gone now, trying to fend off a short one from Dane Paterson and the ball pops up to Ben Slater at short leg.

It's Paterson's 150th County Championship wicket for Notts and a great time to get it.

Kent could do with a captain's innings from Jack Leaning, who's the new man at the crease.

  3. Postpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts v Kent 7-1 (target 407)

It's all about survival for Kent during this pre-lunch period after losing Toby Albert in the third over.

Ben Geddes is hanging in there with Ben Compton and there are 67 overs still to be bowled today, probably at least three of them before the interval.

  4. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 42-2

Sharp chance for George Bell at short leg, and it doesn't stick.

Jack Morley to Emilio Gay who turns it straight to Bell, but the ball bounces out.

  5. wicket

    WICKET - O Price c Baker b Waite 115published at 12:44 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Worcestershire 406, Gloucestershire 267-7

After almost an hour and a half since the previous wicket fell, Matthew Waite makes Worcestershire's third breakthrough of the day.

Just after surpassing his 113 - his maiden first-class century against Yorkshire at Headingley last month - Ollie Price is snapped up at silly-mid-on by Josh Baker.

  6. wicket

WICKET Albert b Hutton 0published at 12:38 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts v Kent 5-1 (target 407)

That's a beauty from Brett Hutton!

He brings one back at Toby Albert and rips out the off stump.

Just what Nottinghamshire fans wanted to see. They need nine more wickets for victory.

  7. 100 runs

Luis Reece makes second century of matchpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Glamorgan 521-8 dec, Derbyshire 318 & 169-0

Derbyshire opener Luis Reece duly completes his second century of the match - and, with that, he and Harry Came have now put on 169.

That surpasses the 165 they shared in the first innings.

Reece, who made 131 first time round, is now on 108, with Came on 54.

And Derbyshire now trail Glamorgan by only 34.

  8. Postpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts v Kent 5-0 (target 407)

Brett Hutton gets proceedings under way as Nottinghamshire hunt wickets, having left themselves 72 overs to bowl Kent out.

Ben Compton cuts a ball to the boundary and adds a single - so you could say Kent are almost up with the required run-rate at the end of the first over!

Hard to imagine they'll be giving serious consideration to this chase, though.

  9. 250 runs

First batting point for Gloucestershirepublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Worcestershire 406, Gloucestershire 260-6

A first batting point for Gloucestershire as they not only go past 250 - but then avoid the follow-on too.

Ollie Price is now on 11, having enjoyed an hour's worth of support from Zafar Gohar, who has lasted 55 balls for his three singles.

  10. wicket

WICKET Broad c Jennings b Morley 16published at 12:26 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 31-2

Jack Morley strikes in his second over.

Classic left-arm spinner's dismissal. Coming round the wicket, he gets turn, bounce and the edge of Justin Broad's bat.

It ricochets off Phil Salt and Keaton Jennings reacts well at slip to grab it low down.

A pleasant summer's day in Scarborough

The umpires have not given up on the Yorkshire-Durham game today - and they have decided to take an early lunch and then inspect again at 1.00.

We are reliably informed by one holidaying BBC Sport man that it is actually "glorious" today up there in Scarborough, where it's shorts weather for him and his family.

Unfortunately, the saturated outfield at North Marine Road took a right soaking yesterday - and that is what is keeping them off.

  12. wicket

NOTTS DECLARE - KENT NEED 407 TO WINpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 372-6 v Kent 316

Steven Mullaney finally signals the end of Nottinghamshire's second innings - having just had his middle stump knocked out of the ground by Arafat Bhuiyan.

That followed a flurry of sixes by Mullaney and Lyndon James, with 20 runs coming from that over before the bowler had the final word.

Kent will have 72 overs to chase a target of 407 - or, more realistically, to bat out a draw.

  13. Time for spinpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 29-1

Left-arm spinner Jack Morley has the ball for the first time in this innings.

He could be set for a long spell.

  14. Postpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 554-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 24-1

A dozen overs ticked off by Northamptonshire for the loss of Ricardo Vasconcelos.

The deficit is down to 178 and there are a minimum of 79 overs to bat.

  15. 300 runs

300 shared runs for Reece & Came in this gamepublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Glamorgan 521-8 dec, Derbyshire 318 & 136

Luis Reece and Harry Came have now shared over 300 runs together in this game.

165 in the first innings. Now a further 136 in the second.

And Came has gone past 50 for the second time too

  16. wicket

WICKET Young c Compton b Quinn 87published at 12:09 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 330-5 v Kent 316

No century for Will Young in his final innings for Nottinghamshire.

He tries to pull a slow bouncer from Matt Quinn and spears it to the deep square boundary, where Ben Compton does well to hold on.

A few heads being scratched now as Lyndon James walks to the middle... Notts are already 364 ahead and surely want to be bowling fairly soon.

  17. wicket

WICKET Moores c Blake b Singh 9published at 12:03 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 316-4 v Kent 316

Good catch by Alex Blake on the boundary, clasping the ball two-handed above his head as Tom Moores gives Jas Singh the charge.

Cue glances to the Notts balcony to see whether Steven Mullaney might be signalling the declaration.

The captain isn't there, though.. he's got his pads on and is heading out to continue the innings.

  18. Postpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 316-3 v Kent 316

Kent's bowlers are trying to get a move on because they're behind the over-rate and know a Nottinghamshire declaration must be imminent.

Seamer Matt Quinn is currently operating off a run-up of about four paces, while Jas Singh is jogging back to his mark after every delivery. It didn't help that he sent down a wide in the previous over.

    Notts lead by exactly 350...

  19. wicket

WICKET Vasconcelos lbw b Bailey 2published at 11:54 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 14-1

    Deserved reward for Tom Bailey!

A probing early spell and he sees off Ricardo Vasconcelos, trapping him in front.

    A 350th first-class wicket for Bulldog!

  20. 100 runs

Century for Ollie Pricepublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Worcestershire 406, Gloucestershire 245-6

A square cut for four of Joe Leach gives Ollie Price his second first-class century - back at Cheltenham College, where he made his debut just two summers ago.

Just another 12 needed to avoid the threat of a follow-on.
