WICKET Clarke c Leaning b Singh 73published at 11:51 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 291-3 v Kent 316

Having just belted Jas Singh for a straight boundary, Joe Clarke attempts to give the next ball the same treatment and doesn't quite get hold of it cleanly.

The ball sails into the hands of deep midwicket and Clarke is on his way after a brutal 73 from 40 deliveries.

No declaration yet from Notts, though, as Tom Moores makes his way out with the lead at 325.

  2. Salt tries to do a Carey!published at 11:46 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 8-0

Will Williams gets one past Ricardo Vasconcelos' edge and the ball goes to Phil Salt.

He spots the batter out of his crease and underarms the ball towards the stumps.

It misses although Vasconcelos may have got his bat down in time.

We nearly had a repeat of Jonny Bairstow v Alex Carey - but without the same exposure and furore!

  3. 100 runs

partnership for Young and Clarkepublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 280-2 v Kent 316

Joe Clarke pulls Jas Singh to the square leg boundary to lift this partnership up to three figures in what seems like no time at all.

Those 100 runs have come from only 65 balls and Nottinghamshire's lead is now above 300.

Clarke is outscoring partner Will Young, with 65 to his 64,

  4. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 7-0

That should have been the first!

Emilio Gay drives at one from Tom Bailey. It flies quickly towards Keaton Jennings at second slip, he gets both hands on it but it goes down.

    That should have been taken.

  5. 50 runs

    Notts 350 & 260-2 v Kent 316

It didn't take Joe Clarke long to follow his partner to 50 - he gets there from only 25 balls!

Arshdeep Singh is taking more punishment here and Clarke dispatches him over the cover fence to reach the half-century with his second six of this pugnacious innings.

Another maximum follows as Notts race towards a declaration.

  6. 50 runs

for Will Youngpublished at 11:34 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 240-2 v Kent 316

Will Young (Notts)Image source, Rex Features

Will Young nudges a single on the off side to bring up his half-century from 49 balls.

The New Zealander's been in relatively sedate mood this morning, able to sit back and admire Joe Clarke's aggressive approach at the other end.

Clarke is only nine short of 50 himself and Nottinghamshire have really hit the accelerator to lead by 270.

  7. 2000 runs on Old Trafford pitchpublished at 11:31 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 4-0

This is the eighth day of use of this pitch, given that it was used for the Ashes Test.

Old Trafford's reputation as a good place to bat continues as we have now had over 2000 runs on it.

It has had six batters make centuries and of course Jonny Bairstow finished unbeaten on 99.

  8. 100 runs

Another century opening stand for Came & Reecepublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Glamorgan 521-8 dec, Derbyshire 318 & 102-0

Harry Came and Luis Reece follow their first-nnings stand of 165 with another century partnership in the second.

Came is on 37 and Reece on 63.

But they still trail Glamorgan by 101 runs - and, after the way they lost all 10 wickets in the first dig for just 153, there will be no home complacency yet.

  9. dropped catch

Arshdeep drops Clarkepublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 223-2 v Kent 316

Joey Evison really should have had a second wicket here as Joe Clarke skies one to mid-off - but Arshdeep Singh, who was savaged by the Notts batter in his previous over, spills a straightforward chance.

Clarke takes full advantage by clobbering another boundary as he races to 34 from 18 balls.

  10. Northants begin rearguard actionpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342 & 0-0

Openers Ricardo Vasconcelos and Emilio Gay come out to face the music.

There are 91 overs left for them to survive.

  11. wicket

    WICKET - J Taylor lbw b Pennington 0published at 11:22 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Worcestershire 406, Gloucestershire 231-6

    Dillon Pennington on a hat-trick at Cheltenham . . .

The Nottinghamshire-bound paceman strikes with his first AND second deliveries with the new ball.

Jack Taylor goes to an LBW decision from Martin Saggers.

But Zafar Gohar survives the hat-trick ball.

Double wicket maiden for Pennington And Gloucestershire stil need a further 26 runs to avoid being asked to follow on.

16 wickets in the match so far - and six have been ducks.

  12. Postpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 214-2 v Kent 316

Having whizzed through a couple of overs, Kent captain Jack Leaning replaces himself with Arshdeep Singh - but it makes little difference to Joe Clarke, who pumps the left-arm paceman down the ground for four.

Clarke follows that up by hooking another boundary and this kind of scoring rate is exactly what Nottinghamshire need if they're looking to declare at some stage this morning.

  13. wicket

    WICKET - T Price b Pennington 46published at 11:21 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Worcestershire 406, Gloucestershire 231-5

The new ball works its charm for Nottinghamshire-bound Dillon Pennington, with his very first delivery with it.

Tom Price, already a centurion against the Pears this season, attempts an imperious cover drive in a bid to reach his 50 with one blow - and he is bowled off an inside edge to end his 111-run stand with little brother Ollie.

  14. Lancashire declarepublished at 11:15 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 544-7 dec v Northamptonshire 342

21 runs are taken off Alex Russell's over. That is 46 runs in three overs.

And with that, captain Keaton Jennings calls the batters in, with a lead of 202.

George Balderson ends one short of 50, as he and Tom Hartley added 61 off 41 balls at the end.

Spare a thought for Russell in only his third first-class match. He walks off with figures of 0-149 from 22 overs.

Think that is what we would term as a steep learning curve.

  15. 200 runs

up for Nottinghamshirepublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 200-2 v Kent 316

Despite the loss of Ben Slater in the first over, Nottinghamshire are looking to increase their lead swiftly and Joe Clarke is immediately on the attack against Jack Leaning.

Clarke punches the spinner to the cover boundary before stepping onto the back foot and pulling a short ball over the midwicket fence for six. He's 14 not out from just seven deliveries.

  16. new ball

Pears take the new ball at Cheltenhampublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Worcestershire 406, Gloucestershire 231-4

Joe Leach takes the new ball for Worcestershire - and immediately finds an edge, but it flies to the boundary off Ollie Price for four.

  17. 6 runs

50 partnershippublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 538-7 v Northamptonshire

George Balderson sends the legspin of Alex Russell over the ropes in front of the Point for a maximum.

That brings up a 50 partnership off only 39 balls.

  18. 6 runs

Postpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Lancashire 523-7 v Northamptonshire 342

Two cracking shots to the boundary from Tom Hartley.

One big six over midwicket from George Balderson.

16 off Jack White's over. This is not a fun time to be bowling!

  19. 100 runs

Century stand for Price brotherspublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Worcestershire 406, Gloucestershire 224-4

A nudged single off Brett D'Oliveira by Ollie Price brings up his second century stand of the season with his brother Tom.

Tom Price then plunders the first boundary of the morning.

But the new ball is due . . .

  20. wicket

WICKET Slater lbw b Evison 87published at 11:03 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    Notts 350 & 177-2 v Kent 316

Well, that wasn't the start Notts had in mind.

First over and Ben Slater's hopes of recording a century in both innings have come to an abrupt end as he's trapped in front by Joey Evison.

Evison was getting the ball to swing nicely in that first over, which may be encouraging news for the Notts seamers if they decide to have a tilt at bowling Kent out later.
