Joe, Bristol: I do love watching Crawley, something is always happening but as you’ve said… not good on the heart!

Those two shots show Zak Crawley is not lacking for confidence.

They’ve also brought the Old Trafford crowd to life again!

  3. 6 runs

    Eng 107-1published at 22.1 overs

And now Zak Crawley has clobbered the next ball for six!

That was utterly dismissive from the England opener.

  4. 50 runs

50 for Zak Crawleypublished at 22.1 overs

    Eng 101-1

Zak Crawley reverse-sweeps Travis Head's first ball away for four to bring up his half-century.

A huge cheer goes up from Old Trafford, as loud as it has been today.

About to go into a mid-year review at work, hoping for parity by the time I'm due out at 4. Wish me luck.

    Crawley is lucky there!

  8. Eng 97-1published at 22 overs

Zak Crawley is living a bit of a charmed life here.

It is a fuller delivery from Pat Cummins that lures Crawley into a loose drive and he very nearly inside edges onto his stumps. The ball also just evades a diving Carey and runs away for four.

    Crawley moves on to 49.

The outcome was the same. The execution very different.

Good running between the wickets is how England can keep the pressure on Australia.

It is indeed short stuff from Cameron Green, who bowls around the wicket to Moeen Ali.

Moeen manages to deal with them quite well, fending the ball off safely away for a couple singles.

Green goes fuller to Crawley who milks a few more runs into the on side.

A helmet has been brought out for Travis Head who moves into short leg.

    Short stuff incoming...

  13. Eng 84-1published at 20 overs

    Crawley 38, Moeen 41

We have just seen a close up of Moeen Ali bat, which has 'MO' printed on the front.

    It also has 'TON'.

One of those would be nice this afternoon.

I think the Bazball button has been pushed!

  15. Eng 81-1published at 19 overs

Zak Crawley is not doing much for the nerves - at the ground or here in the office. He has gone for a wild flash outside off stump that finds a thick edge and flies just over Usman Khawaja in the slips.

That's more like it, though. Crawley plays a delicious drive down the ground to make it back-to-back boundaries.

    Strap yourselves in.

  16. Eng 73-1published at 18 overs

Travis Head is busy on the boundary as he claws back a late cut from Zak Crawley before the rope to deny him a boundary.

A positive start by these England batters after lunch.

  17. Eng 69-1published at 17 overs

He liked that one as well!

Moeen Ali has leaned into a gorgeous cover drive off Pat Cummins and the ball races away for four.

It was a no ball as well. Bit of a loosener from the Aussie skipper.

  18. Eng 64-1published at 17 overs

Moeen Ali latches onto a short ball from Cameron Green and plays a lovely cut shot through point that is fielded by Travis Head on the boundary.

Moeen knowingly nods back to Zak Crawley after completing the single. Think he liked that one.

The two teams are back out. Cameron Green will open up at lunch.

  20. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 20 July 2023
