That did not go quickly like direct edge of the bat, so there must have been some pad somewhere.
What's happening here?
The Australians think Joe Root has been caught at slip. Root doesn't look like he has hit it.
The umpires have gone upstairs to check whether it carried.
Zak Crawley is already marching back out to the middle.
Ready to go again?
I can hear the England fans chanting through the tea break. Old Trafford is pumped.

Can we take a moment to appreciate how important Ali's 54 was to give Root and Crawley a platform to do this madness! Very excited for the evening session now.

Take it, Oliver.
Lots of people are texting us about the prospect of a declaration.
Surely England have to get the runs now while they're in?
Get yourself 150 ahead and then you think about declaring.

I don't want to take all the credit, but...I was on my Sunday morning run a few months ago and went past Edgbaston just as the Kent players were getting off their team coach. I looked over my shoulder as I went past a couple of them and clocked ZC. 'Alright Zac', I said. 'Morning mate', he replied. I can't help but think that it was that moment that things really started to get back on track for him.

England scored 178 runs in that session at a run-rate of 7.12.
We even got to see the Root Scoop - the shot I'm desperately trying to name the Roop.
Crawley's best shots as he brings up a century
I interviewed a spiky Zak Crawley at the start of the summer when he told me he doesn't care about the criticism he gets on social media.
He isn't on Twitter for that very reason but he'd find a lot of praise on there now...
Thanks Tom.
Zak Crawley, take a bow...
As the players head to the pavilion it is also time for me to take a break and try and soak in what I have just witnessed.
What will the evening session bring? Here is Matthew Henry to guide you through it.

What a session of batting for England, they have been waiting for this.

Australians will be going back to the drawing board now, it was a tough session and they got hit for everything.
Sam Drury
BBC Sport cricket writer at Old Trafford
That is an incredible session for England and - for the umpteenth time since lunch - the delirious crowd are on their feet to cheer them off.
Trail by 78 runs
That sounds like an album title.
Anyway, a powerful sweep from Zak Crawley brings two more runs and completes a pretty much perfect session for England.
They plundered 178 runs from 25 overs to grind Australia down and move within sight of their first innings score with eight wickets in hand.
Pat Cummins and his side have some thinking to do at tea.

Crawley is in the groove and Australia can't stop him.
Travis Head lobs down a wide one that Zak Crawley heaves away for another six to bring up the 100 partnership from just 79 balls!
This is incredible stuff.
A valiant attempt to try and gain some sympathy for sitting on a beach, Tom and Megan.

Currently sat on a beach in Lagos with the tide getting closer and closer; I've told my girlfriend we can't move for fear of causing a wicket but are mere minutes from being swept away... SOS.
