  1. Eng 68-2published at 14 overs

Moeen Ali, who may well be playing his final Test again, is up and running.

He clips Mitch Marsh for a couple over square leg.

He dug in well at Old Trafford for a half-century and England need more of the same.

Zak Crawley played some lovely shots but also had some luck in that 37-ball innings.

Hazlewood and Starc, that was possibly the worst opening burst I've seen from that pair. Cummins and Marsh with the wickets, Marsh bowling with some swing.

  4. Eng 66-2published at 13 overs

Joe Root plays out two dot balls to end the over.

Pat Cummins had made Zak Crawley play and miss five times in 10 balls before that wicket.

    A real working over.

Australia needed that and England have two new batters out there in Moeen Ali and Joe Root.

That's what you expect from Cummins, a good wicket of Crawley.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12.4 overs

    Crawley c Smith b Cummins 22 (Eng 66-2)

Two in four balls. Both openers are gone.

Pat Cummins deserves this, he's been brilliant so far.

A little bit of extra bounce and movement and Zak Crawley is squared up.

A thick edge flies to Steve Smith and he's able to hold on above his head this time.

From nowhere England have lost two quick wickets.

Duckett hits a run a ball 41 but just three fours, he and Crawley's 62-run partnership came off just 12 overs.

It has touched the glove. Very hard for the umpire to pick that up. Australia somehow get a wicket with strangulation, you would have to say.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 12 overs

    Duckett c Carey b Marsh 41 (Eng 62-1)

He has! A feather off the glove.

It is a soft dismissal for Ben Duckett as he looks to work Mitch Marsh off his hips, but it gets a little big on him and it grazes off his glove and goes through to Alex Carey.

The appeals were relatively subdued but they opted for the review and it pays dividend.

    Hmmmm.

Australia think Ben Duckett has gloved down the leg side.

    They want another look.

That was the shot of the morning, there was a bit of a shimmy and then a very controlled straight drive.

  14. Eng 62-0published at 11.2 overs

England have played some unreal shots this morning.

This is another from Zak Crawley as he shimmies down the pitch and pushes Mitch Marsh back down the ground.

In all Ashes cricket, there has been one opening partnership in the first innings to get a faster 50, that was in 1902 at Old Trafford.

Theo: Let’s be honest if we draw this Ashes series, which I think we will, it’s more than a pyschological victory… the Aussies have been on the ropes since Headingley.

Ryan Hewitt: Fair play to Australia. They waited until the fifth over to put two sweepers out having won the toss.

John Petrie: When England score at such a fast rate, it easy to forget that Australia's bowling attack is of a very high quality. England have begun to take them apart in the last two matches.

  17. Eng 55-0published at 11 overs

    Brilliant bowling from Pat Cummins.

He beats Zak Crawley with a bit of extra bounce, before another play and miss caused by one keeping low.

A third play and miss follows from a delivery that moves back in slightly before straightening.

    Top-class from Cummins.

It's a hard life but Smith was at full stretch. It brushed the fingers, he was completely air-borne by the time he went to catch it. It was a much tougher chance than Warner's.

Smith got a hand on that as he dived. That would've been a super catch.

  20. dropped catch

Crawley dropped on 11published at 10 overs

    Eng 52-0

Double change for Australia as all-rounder Mitch Marsh comes into the attack.

Interesting seeming Australia seemed reluctant to bowl him for large periods of the Old Trafford Test.

He finishes with a no-ball, but the extra ball almost brings the wicket.

It's a thick edge from Zak Crawley but a diving Steve Smith, at second slip, can only parry it round the corner.
