This game is in the balance again, but the crowd are still very quiet here at The Oval.

After an England appeal for lbw is turned down fifth ball, Alex Carey gets off the mark with a boundary.
Too full from James Anderson and it's driven firmly through extra cover by Carey.
Makes sense. Is it Occam's razor that the simplest explanation is usually the right one?

Could be called an over as the current period of 6 balls has finished being bowled, so to signify this the umpire calls “over”…. Just a theory.

The end of bowling from one end is finished as in over move to other end over.

On the over chat. I think it's an over simply because it is 'over'.
Three from the Joe Root over, including the leg-bye taken from the lbw appeal.
Jimmy Anderson will continue from the other end.

There was no bat involved on UltraEdge but it looked like it came off the face of the bat. Luckily for Alex Carey it was outside the line.
Aus 155-5
Not out. The impact was outside the line by some way.
The third umpire saw a bit a murmur on UltraEdge but deciced that wasn't enough to say there was bat involved.
Interesting but it made no difference in the end.
England have just one review remaining.

As soon as the umpire singled leg-bye it changed Ben Stokes' decision about whether to review it or not.
England have gone upstairs for an lbw against Alex Carey.
The left-hander missed on the sweep. Given not out.
Any bat involved? Did it hit him outside the line?
Interesting. Mark Wood came on for one over, replacing Joe Root, and now he's been taken off.
Root is back.

Australia this morning opened themselves in a bit of hole this morning and it only takes one or two wickets to cause problems. They are still okay, but the wicket from Jimmy is big. There's a little bit in this pitch, still a bit of sideways movement.

Hopefully that’s silenced the Jimmy doubters for a while! GOAT.

What an hour it has been for England since lunch.
Here's is the third wicket to fall in that time - one Jimmy Anderson will really have enjoyed as he knocked over Mitch Marsh!
Another good over from Jimmy Anderson, just a single from it.
Alex Carey drives the last ball into the covers but can't beat the fielder. Having faced 11 balls, he is yet to get off the mark.
Time for drinks.

We're equally stumped in our office, Ellie. Can anyone help us out?
Get in touch if you can!

A question that is stumping our office (no pun intended) why is an over called an over?
From Ellie in York
The crowd are fired up and so is Mark Wood.
He comes charging in and sends down a yorker that Alex Carey just manages to dig out with the ball sliding off the inside edge and into the leg side.
Joe Root's spell lasts just one over. Mark Wood is back on as Ben Stokes and England go for the jugular.
