  4. Postpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 5 September 2023

    Essex 304 & 4-0 v Middlesex 179

Josh de Caires, who is seeking 18 wickets for the match, remember, opens the bowling from the other end.

He's bowling to one of England's best ever opening batters - just as he's probably done in the garden countless times...

    Worcs 284 & 145 v Glamorgan 170 & 179

Logan van Beek goes straight through Jamie McIlroy's defences, and knocks leg stump out of the ground to claim the final wicket.

Van Beek has been superb in this game, taking four-fer in both innings, as well as reaching 50 with the bat.

Jubilant celebrations in the middle from the Worcestershire players, who know that they've taken a big step towards a potential promotion here.

Billy Root is left stranded for an excellent 84, but in truth, Glamorgan never looked like reaching the victory target of 260.

    Glamorgan 173-9 v Worcs - target 260

Billy Root goes to reverse sweep Jake Libby's off-spin, and connects well, but Adam Hose had anticipated the shot at slip.

He positions himself perfectly, but can't claim the rebound after parrying it up in the air.

Glamorgan still need an improbable 87 more to win.

  10. Tea at Scarboroughpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 5 September 2023

    Yorkshire 297 & 511-8 v Derbyshire 247

Matthew Revis will have to tuck into his tea unbeaten on 98.

Can the fifth half-centurion of the day become the first into three figures?

Matthew Fisher has 10* at the other end and the Yorkshire lead is an almighty 561.

    Glamorgan 196-9 v Worcs - target 260

Timm van der Gugten pushes forward at Joe Leach and gets a healthy edge to Adam Hose at first slip.

It's a good low catch coming forward, and Worcestershire are on the verge...

It has to be said that Van der Gugten tore his hamstring on day one - impressive that he came out to bat at all.

It's three in three as he runs Ben Raine down past the solitary slip to post a 50 stand with Cheteshwar Pujara.

Carter is 39 not out, now just one run behind his partner.

Nick Gubbins and Tom Prest head to the pavilion to warm applause from the home crowd.

The Hampshire pair have put on 79 for the fourth wicket since the loss of James Vince, and have guided their side to a position of total dominance.

The Somerset players are trudging their way off, hoping and praying for a Hampshire declaration - the lead is 501.

  14. Postpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 5 September 2023

    Northants 232 & 96-3 v Lancashire 524

    Glamorgan 161-7 v Worcs - target 260

James Harris tucks one off his hip for a single to take the runs required for Glamorgan under 100.

Billy Root is holding things together very nicely indeed. They couldn't, could they?

WICKET Bamber lbw b Porter 0published at 15:01 British Summer Time 5 September 2023

    Essex 304 v Middlesex 179

Jamie Porter picks up 6-34 after pinning Ethan Bamber plumb in front.

Middlesex are all out and trail by 125. Josh de Caires finishes unbeaten on 29 from 33 deliveries. Quite a game for him, so far.

Middlesex cannot earn a batting bonus point, however. If they lose they will take just three points from the match.

That will be an early tea...

  18. Postpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 5 September 2023

    Yorkshire 297 & 498-8 v Derbyshire 247

Yorkshire continue to bat on at Scarborough.

Jordan Thompson was dismissed by Alex Thomson for an eye-catching 64 not long ago, which included four sixes - that was the fifth half-century of Yorkshire's second innings.

Matt Revis is still at the crease on 90, and you suspect that as and when he reaches three figures, Yorkshire will declare.

The lead currently sits at 548.

  19. Postpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 5 September 2023

    Durham 505-9 dec v Sussex 266 & 100-4

Having scored a hundred earlier in the day, Bas de Leede is now going to have a turn with the ball for Durham.

His first delivery is run down through the gap between first slip and gully by Oli Carter and brings him four runs.

A single by Cheteshwar Pujara at the start of the next takes the score into three figures. Sussex are 139 behind.

  20. wicket

WICKET Procter lbw b Williams 1published at 14:49 British Summer Time 5 September 2023

    Northants 232 & 82-3 v Lancashire 524

A disappointing day for Luke Procter against his former club.

He's back in his crease, shuffling across towards off, trying to play across the line and has been hit in line by Will WIlliams. He survived a big appeal from the previous delivery but not many complaints here.

Rob Keogh is the new batter.
