A good morning for Leicestershire vindicating their decision to bowl first on a sweltering day in Hove.

That didn’t look likely when Sussex were 50 without loss, but some poor shots combined with excellent line and length bowling then caused four Sussex wickets to go down for 53 in the second hour of the morning session.

This is a game that both sides need to win to keep their promotion hopes alive - and the visitors will have been be the happier at lunch.

Another let off as Bell-Drummond takes the aerial route, driving just past point off Mullaney for four runs.

The last ball of the over is cut to mid off for one.

The weather has now set in at Edgbaston.

This is currently the scene. So no restart after lunch.

It does not look like it's raining very much, but the brollies have gone up - and there are certainly no groundstaff hovering expectantly, which is normally a good sign of potential activity.

Another heart-in-mouth moment as Crawley drives his first post-lunch ball and edges just wide of a diving second slip for four.

The innings 100 comes up in the 30th over.

A late strike for Notts just before the break to prize out Ben Compton but they'll be keen to see the back of his opening partner Zak Crawley, who is scoring at nearly a run a ball.

The England and Kent opener resumes on 73 with Daniel Bell-Drummond yet to get off the mark.

Fernando will bowl to Crawley.

The worst possible morning session for Middlesex in their battle to avoid relegation from Division One.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, they've crumbled away.

A batting line-up which looks devoid of confidence have offered little resistance to a Lancashire bowling attack on the back of victory over Northamptonshire last week.

Middlesex have only picked up two batting points all season and are already staring down the barrel of a demoralising display.

At least, from 19-5, they have stopped the rot, though. Ryan Higgins (30 off 32 balls) has so far added 46 with Sam Robson, who has batted through to lunch on 25.

When Kent manage to rotate the strike the Nottinghamshire field is a sight to behold.

Like the tides of the sea, their fielders slosh out towards the boundary when Zak Crawley is facing and were then sweeping in towards the square when Ben Compton was at the crease.

It was certainly a long and hot morning under the baking sun for the visitors, until that wicket of Compton.

Bell-Drummond sees off the 28th over and we've got time for one more.

Crawley picks up a single off the third ball and Bell-Drummond blocks.

Kent have the better of the session, but Notts have caused problems without luck.

Nonetheless, the visitors will be buoyed by the wicket of Compton just before the break.

Crawley lunches unbeaten on 73, off 74 balls with 12 boundaries.

Leicestershire's morning as they have their reward for putting Sussex in to bat.

Four scalps, including the key one of captain Cheteshwar Pujara.

No further loss of wickets in Birmingham.

Emili Gay lunches on 42, with Karun Nair on 17.

Steven Mullaney is in the attack and his second ball goes straight through Crawley and keeper Moores for four byes.

The fifth ball is cut away for a single.

Compton is struck on the pad by the last ball. The umpire raises his hand...to scratch his chin.

Compton opens the face of the bat and gets a single to move to 18.

One more for Crawley, dropping the ball safely into the off side.

A great session for Kent so far, but Notts have been a little unlucky in the field - with Crawley getting away with a couple of nicks and a lofted shot just past Hameed.

Crawley drives Hutton down the ground, just out of the bowler's reach for his tenth boundary.

The fourth ball is struck to deep mid wicket and Fernando misses it.

Four more.

Another four driven past the bowler and out of Paterson's reach.

That was yorker length. What a shot.

Play is at last underway at Sophia Gardens, where Yorkshire have won the toss and decided to bat.

The Tykes are still bottom of the table following their mid-season 48-point deduction.

But Yorkshire coach Ottis Gibson has challenged his team to win their last four matches - to get as high up the table as they can, if only for pride's sake - and they got the first of those to beat Derbyshire last week.

They have the chance to end the season well.

Compton dabs Harrison into the off side and is halfway down the pitch before Crawley sends him back. A tense moment but he's safe.
