England's Zak Crawley was within 13 runs of beating his own personal best score for Kent when he was out for 158 - to a stunning caught and bowled from Calvin Harrison

What a day. A morning of rain, bad light, more rain, worse light, then lunch, followed by an afternoon of run-making, then some sunny spells in the evening sunshine both on and off the pitch.

Three centurions, with England's Zak Crawley (158) taking top prize in Division One, although he was put down twice early on before departing to an absolute blinder.

And, in Division Two, tons too for Gloucestershire's Ollie Price (125 not out) and Yorkshire skipper Shan Masood (113 not out).

In terms of the battle to stay up, Middlesex have made life much harder for themselves, closing on 132-8 against Lancashire.

But Sam Robson is still there on 56.

And, thanks to half-centuries from Emilio Gay and Karun Nair on his debut, even Northants have shown some fight, so there is a lot to look forward to tomorrow.

Not quite as late as feared - and still in ridiculously good light, given that 23 overs were lost in the day.

But, from 24-2, bottom club Northants have recoveed well to close on 200-5.

Danny Briggs has been summoned for a quick trundle.

  6. Close of play in Bristolpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Gloucestershire 333-6 v Derbyshire

All over for the day too at Nevil Road, where Ollie Price closes on 125 out of Gloucestershire's 333-6.

He enjoyed a 157-run stand with his skipper Graeme Van Buuren, who made 78.

Not a good day for winless Derbyshire as they bid to avoid finishing bottom.

  7. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Sussex 262 v Leics 68-2

The visitors will be marginally the happier of the two sides, having restricted the hosts to less than 300 and steadied the ship after the early loss of Sol Budinger for a duck in the second over.

In largely dry, humid conditions, Rishi Patel batted patiently for his unbeaten 36 off 68 balls and he'll resume in the morning with Colin Ackermann on 17.

Right arm seamer Matt Salisbury was the pick of the Leicestershire bowlers with 5-73.

  8. Close of play in Cardiffpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Yorkshire 330-3 v Glamorgan

Yorkshire skipper Shan Masood's decision to bat in Cardiff looks to have proved a good one after a run-filled day in the Welsh capital.

They closron 330-3, with Masood himself on 113, having so far shared 90-run stand with George Hill (51*), after goof efforts earlier from openers Fin Bean (93) and Adam Lyth (49).

  9. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 18:10 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 387-4 v Notts

A short leg and a first slip in for Harrison. Finch scampers a single off the third ball.

Leaning pads up to the fourth ball, which runs away to the fence and the umpire has signalled four wides.

Leaning picks up one more single off the fifth ball and Finch defends into the on side. That's stumps.

Kent will resume tomorrow in a strong position after a sublime (but not entirely chanceless) 158 from Zak Crawley, but don't underestimate the value of this unbroken fifth wicket partnership between Finch and Leaning - now worth 80.

58 of those runs were scored against the new ball under floodlights and all of them after Kent lost two wickets in two deliveries.

Harrison was the standout player for Notts with two wickets, including a stunning caught and bowled to remove Crawley.

    Kent 380-4 v Notts

The fourth Mullaney ball is tapped away to the off side...

A rapid pick up and throw from Fernando just evades the stumps as Leaning runs a single to the danger end.

Finch will keep the strike with a deflection to the off side for one more.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Jack Leaningpublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 378-4 v Notts

Mullaney's third ball is tickled away down the leg side for four to bring up the landmark off 99 balls.

Six fours and one six in that knock.

His fourth half century for Kent in this summer's Championship campaign - with a best effort of 68 not out against Hampshire in May.

He could easily go past that if he survives this session.

  12. wicket

WICKET Nair c Burgess b Barnard 78published at 18:02 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Northants 182-5 v Warwickshire

Warwickshire's spirited end to the day gathers pace as they pick up their third wicket in seven overs.

And it is a good bolwing change as Ed Barnard ends his first ovcer after coming back on by getting the prize wicket of Karun Nair, caught behind, a second successful pouch of the innings for Michael Burgess.

Next in is Lewis McManus to join Saif Zaib, with still 10 overs left to face tonight.

  13. Postpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 374-4 v Notts

Finch nudges the first Harrison ball down to fine leg for two runs.

Just the two runs come from the over - and now Mullaney will bowl his last six balls of the day's play.

  14. Postpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 372-4 v Notts

Finch picks up one off the second ball - and Leaning gets a couple off the fourth ball with a push into the offside.

The fifth ball is clipped just short of Lyndon James at midwicket.

    Three overs left tonight.

Calvin Harrison will bowl his leg-spin with a forward short leg in place.

  15. Close of play in Manchesterpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Middlesex 132-8 v Lancashire

As previously suspected an hour or so ago, that is it for the day at Old Trafford.

Umpires Neil Mallender and David Millns have taken their final light reading of the day - and called it off.

Middlesex will resume in some peril in the morning on 132-8 - but with the limpet-like Sam Robson still there on 56.

  16. Postpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 369-4 v Notts

The last ball of Mullaney's over is cut away by Finch for two - and this fifth wicket pair are doing a fine job against the new ball in fairly gloomy, humid conditions.

Hutton nearly cuts Leaning in half with the first ball of the 92nd over and the ball goes through to the keeper. Beaten again as the ball flies past Leaning's midriff.

Two slips in for Hutton. The fourth ball is clipped away through the on side for four runs. He's on 46.

  17. Postpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 363-4 v Notts

This is good batting by Finch, dropping Hutton into the offside for a comfortable single. He's on 35.

Leaning is a bit rushed in defence but pushes the ball safely into the off side.

Six overs remain for Notts to take a fifth wicket.

A short pause in play as drinks come onto the field for the Kent pair.

  18. wicket

    WICKET Keogh b Hannon-Dalby 9published at 17:42 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Northants 181-4 v Warwickshire

The Rob Keogh drop in his previous over did not, after all, prove too expensive.

Keogh is bowled by Oliver Hannon-Dalby to earn the Warwickshire fat bowler his third wicket - and 40th first-class scalp of the summer.

Saif Zaib is the new man in to join Karun Nair, who has moved on to 78.

  19. Postpublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 362-4 v Notts

Mullaney's first ball is leg side and flicked away by Finch for a single.

A much better line for the rest of the over, which costs only three runs.

A maximum of seven overs left before stumps tonight.

  20. Postpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 357-4 v Notts

Leaning has a very upright stance as he clips Hutton away with a roll of the wrists for a single to move on to 39.

Finch strokes the fifth ball into the off side for one - and that's a precious 50 partnership for the fifth wicket in tough conditions off 89 balls.

Change of bowling at the other end.

Notts skipper Steven Mullaney is coming on.
