    Kent 238-1 v Notts

This is his second highest score of the summer - bettered only by his 189 against the Aussies at Manchester.

    Northants 109-2 v Warwickshire

A fourth first-class fifty of the summer for Emilio Gay.

A warm round of applause from the locals, who are all of a sudden bathed in what appears to be sunshine.

India Test batsman Karun Nair, who is on 47, may not be far behind him.

Here's the state of play at Hove, Bristol and Cardiff...

Sussex are holding on against Leicestershire at Hove after slumping to 135-5. They're now 212-7.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice is at the crease for the hosts on 46 not out.

Two wickets each for Matt Salisbury, Scott Currie and Tom Scriven.

Yorkshire have reached 162-1 against Glamorgan at Cardiff, where opener Finlay Bean is 57 not out.

Gloucestershire have lost their third wicket against Derbyshire at Bristol but remain well placed on 157-3.

  5. ouch!

Fernando injured?published at 15:19 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 229-1 v Notts

Sri Lankan pace bowler Fernando is back into the attack for Notts, bowling back of a length outside off stump.

    Bell-Drummond leaves the ball alone.

Fernando flexes his leg - and he's now wincing in pain on the ground with cramp.

A cruel blow for him and for Notts.

He's back and bowling round the wicket - well wide of off and chopped away for a single. One more pushed to mid on to end the over.

  6. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Middlesex 120-7 v Lancashire

They are now, officially, taking tea in Manchester.

  7. Postpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 218-1 v Notts

Another crisp drive form Crawley, this time off Hutton, brings a single to take the opener to 133.

Hutton drops short to Bell-Drummond, who pulls the ball away for four.

The fifth ball is legside and padded away for four leg byes.

Nine off the over - and Notts need a bit of magic.

  8. Back on at Edgbastonpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Northants 90-2 v Warwickshire

Meanwhile, they are coming back on again at Edgbaston

After the second rain break of the afternoon, that is now officially 23 overs lost in the day.

But, if it stays like this, with no further breaks, and with the lights remaining on, it could be a quarter to seven finish on the cards in Birmingham.

  9. Rain in Manchesterpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Middlesex 120-7 v Lancashire

They are, in fact, coming off.

Umpires Neil Mallender and David Millns made the decision because of bad light.

But now the predicted rain has arrived. And the groundstaff are getting busy. They are bringing the sheets on, as well as the covers, which hints at an extended break.

  10. 50 runs

    Kent 209-1 v Notts

Daniel Bell-Drummond faces Harrison from the Pavilion End on 49.

The fourth ball is deflected in front of square leg for two.

That's his third half century for Kent in the Championship this summer, and his first since scoring a triple century at Northampton in June.

    106 balls and six fours.

  11. wicket

WICKET De Caires c Bell b Bailey 14published at 15:01 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Middlesex 120-7 v Lancashire

Josh de Caires gives a slip catch to George Bell to earn Tom Bailey his 46th wicket of the season.

"A prod, a push and a poke all rolled into one," says the batsman's dad's former team-mate Paul Allott. "It wasn't a very good shot".

Sam Robson remains as he is joined by Jayant Yadav. Or is he?

    Are they coming off?

  12. 50 runs

Half-century for Sam Robsonpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Middlesex 118-6 v Lancashire

    Sam Robson hoists his bat.

Good, gritty effort that but it's only the first time he has passed 50 this season

  13. 6 runs

Kent sail past 200published at 14:57 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 202-1 v Notts

Crawley brings up the 100 partnership with a back foot drive through cover for a single.

Another single for Bell-Drummond - and now Crawley blasts Kent past 200 with a six down the ground!

    Glorious swing of the bat.

  14. Dodgy light in Manchester?published at 14:54 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Middlesex 114-6 Lancashire

Plenty of ruminating about the weather currently in the commentary box in Manchester.

They are playing on for the moment. But the clouds are buliding.

And all the worried weather-watching doom-mongers are expecting them to be off shortly.

For now, the dowty Sam Robson (46 off 146 balls) plods remorselessly on, with Josh de Caires on 12.

Still potentially 47 overs left in the day to come today - but how many will they see?

  15. Postpublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 193-1 v Notts

The Kent batters are taking comfortable singles off the bowling of Harrison to take the score past 180.

Brett Hutton is into a new spell - and his second ball is steered to third man by Bell-Drummond for four. Played it late with sweet timing.

A single off the fourth - and Hutton pitches the ball up to Crawley, who flicks a leg side ball through Lyndon James at fine leg for four, as the fielder grabs the ball but touches the rope.

  16. Postpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 179-1 v Notts

Crawley drives Paterson into the covers - and that's a brilliant diving stop in the deep by Haseeb Hameed to keep it to two.

Paterson is still getting the ball to nip in off the seam and Notts still have hope for a breakthrough.

  17. Postpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 177-1 v Notts

    Alex Hoad
    BBC Sport at Canterbury

Zak Crawley rode his luck a little early on but this knock has blossomed into a typically eye-catching and potentially crucial one for Kent, building a solid foundation for the hosts to push for those vital batting bonus points later in the day.

It's his third century of the summer, his second for Kent and his second at Canterbury. His first helped his county to their only home win thus far, against Northants in April. How they'll hope that tally at least doubles before the end of the season.

Crawley's other century was rather more high-profile, of course, coming from 93 balls in the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford. He eventually made 189.

  18. Postpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 177-1 v Notts

Crawley drops the ball into the off side for a single off Harrison.

    He's on 113.

Bell-Drummond sees out the rest of the over - and Kent are in calm waters since the loss of Compton just before lunch.

  19. dropped catch

Dropped catch at Old Traffordpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Middlesex 110-6 v Lancashire

Josh de Caires is dropped by Lancashire skipper Keaton Jennings at second slip off Luke Wood.

It would have been a third wicket for the England white-ball man on his first Championship start since April.

  20. Postpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 10 September 2023

    Kent 175-1 v Notts

More punishment for Calvin Harrison, who will feel a nasty sting after Bell-Drummond drives down the ground and the ball thuds into the leg-spinner's wrist on the bounce.

Four singles come from the over.

Notts are working hard to try and control the scoring rate on a belter of a pitch.
