    Nottinghamshire v Middlesex 91-3

A very nice flick through midwicket from Ryan Higgins off Dane Paterson gets him four.

He has been Middlesex's player of the year and he's a good man for them to have at the crease right now.

  2. wicket

WICKET Brown c Overton b Lawes 78published at 16:49 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Hants 217-9 v Surrey

There’s the third bowling point for Surrey!

A fourth wicket for Tom Lawes as he has Ben Brown held at slip.

Brown has rescued his side from a shambles of a first innings but now they have a little score to work with.

But regardless of the match, if Surrey now score 300 inside 110 overs the Championship is theirs.

In Division One, Somerset's batters have finally dug in at Edgbaston through captain Tom Abell and Lewis Gregory. They've taken the visitors from 37-6 to 79-6 after tea.

Graham Clark has just reached his hundred for Durham who are dominating against Leicestershire. The Division Two champions are 337-4 with David Bedingham in the 90s.

Derbyshire are also flying against Glamorgan on 279-2 with Luis Reece unbeaten on 130.

The bowlers are still on top at Hove. Gloucestershire are 70-3 in reply to Sussex's 202 all out.

  4. 200 runs

up for Worcestershirepublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Yorkshire v Worcestershire 200-4

Brett D'Oliveira guides a Dom Bess delivery backward of square and picks up three. That helps his team reach 200.

With a possible 25 overs still to go tonight, they could get at least one batting point.

While promotion could be sealed tomorrow morning as Leicestershire have a little over 32 overs left to pick up five Durham wickets to get the maximum three bowling points.

But let's be honest, the sense of jeopardy for the Pears is not there.

  5. Postpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 284-8

That is a lovely lofted on-drive by Matty Hurst off Nathan Gilchrist.

The 19-year-old wicketkeeper moves to 43, one fewer than this stand with Will Williams, which has reached annoying territory for Kent

  6. wicket

WICKET McManus lbw b Critchley 2published at 16:39 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Northants 214-6 v Essex

Matt Critchley strikes again in his next over!

Slides a full ball past the inside edge of Lewis McManus and this time there looks like little debate.

Second point on the board for Essex.

  7. Play resumes in Nottinghampublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire v Middlesex 73-3

The final session has begun in some soft sunshine at Trent Bridge.

We have 24 overs until the close with Ryan Higgins grabbing a single off the first one of those bowled by Lyndon James.

    Northants 207-5 v Essex

A flick of the wrists past mid-on gives Rob Keogh a splendid century in only 105 balls.

He's counter-attacked very well this afternoon for his second hundred of the summer.

    16 fours and two sixes.

  9. 200 runs

up for Hampshirepublished at 16:34 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Hants 204-8 v Surrey

Kyle Abbott has come out and swung Cameron Steel's leg spin over long-on for six and added two boundaries to take Hampshire past 200.

Ben Brown still goes well on 72 and Hampshire have at least avoided complete disaster here.

  10. wicket

WICKET Zaib c Rossington b Critchley 28published at 16:25 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Northants 202-5 v Essex

Ooo now then. Saif Zaib given out caught behind pushing well outside off at Matt Critchley.

The appeal from the wicketkeeper is only half-hearted but Critchley is very keen and Zaib is given out.

He looks baffled by the decision and stands his ground. The umpire stands finger raised. Eventually Zaib peels away and has a look back. Clearly thinks he's hit the ground.

Excellent partnership of 107 is over.

  11. 'Middlesex nerves will be jangling'published at 16:24 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

Notts v Middlesex 72-3 - tea, day one

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

It was a bold call to bat first by Middlesex - a side that has only passed 250 twice in a first innings this season to register a total of two batting bonus points.

The sun was out at the toss, after heavy morning rain left the outfield damp through the first half of the day, but the cloud cover quickly blew in and Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman's swift start was abruptly ended by a couple of pearlers in the space of three balls.

It could have been worse when Steven Eskinazi, recalled to the side for the first time in four games, was dropped at slip by Joe Clarke off the bowling of Jake Ball early on.

Max Holden did depart before tea as Lyndon James struck with his first ball and the nerves will be jangling for a side who must better Kent's points return this week if they are to climb out of the relegation zone.

The pitch is on the dry side and was used for the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at the weekend - Middlesex will very much be of the hope that if they can't claim an abundance of batting points then Jayant Yadav will spin them to victory later in the game.

  12. Postpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 272-8

Some good stuff from Matty Hurst as he takes 13 off Aron Nijjar's latest over.

He swots one over extra-cover and unfurls a nice sweep for two boundaries to go with a couple of twos before getting a single through the covers off the final ball to keep the strike.

This stand with Will Williams is worth a useful 32 and Hurst has 35.

Well into the evening session at most matches, but we are going to have the 20-minute tea interval at Trent Bridge.

Middlesex have lost three wickets but scored at four an over. That positive approach may be the way to go about things with the floodlights on.

  14. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire v Middlesex 69-3

Heart in mouth time for Stevie Eskinazi as he edges one from Lyndon James.

But there is no third slip and no third man so the result is four.

Eskinazi must be careful though, as a similar shot will surely bring about his downfall - and his team cannot afford that.

  15. 50 runs

for Brett D'Oliveirapublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Yorkshire v Worcestershire 168-4

    Shot!

Jordan Thompson pitches it up and Brett D'Oliveira shows us the full face of the bat as he sends it to the cover fence.

It is also a century stand between him and Kashif Ali, and is putting Worcestershire in a good position.

Remember they only need two points to guarantee promotion. 300 runs inside 110 overs and that'll do them.

  16. wicket

WICKET Fuller lbw b Steel 25published at 16:07 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Hants 172-8 v Surrey

Cameron Steel is asked to continue straight after the break and he makes the breakthrough in the first over of the evening session.

James Fuller played breezily before tea but goes to sweep the leg spin and is hit right in front.

A stand of 55 is ended.

  17. First batting point for Lancashirepublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 253-8

Young Lancashire wicketkeeper Matty Hurst, in only his second Championship game, has guided his team past 250, and the first batting point.

But at the other end, Will Williams has just survived a big LBW appeal against Yazvendra Chahal.

  18. wicket

WICKET Holden b James 15published at 16:01 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire v Middlesex 62-3

First ball from Lyndon James... and middle stump out of the ground!

Max Holden had stroked a nice couple of boundaries, but he is beaten all ends up by James.

Ryan Higgins will be the new batter.

  19. wicket

    WICKET Blatherwick c Bell-Drummond b Nijjar 5published at 15:56 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Kent v Lancashire 240-8

    Another Lancashire wicket goes down.

Aron Nijjar offers the bait and Jack Blatherwick can't resist taking it!

Nijjar tosses one up outside off-stump and Blatherwick goes for the big shot, but he gets it very high rather than handsome and Daniel Bell-Drummond gets himself under it to complete the catch.

From 217-4, this innings is threatening to subside quickly.

  20. 50 runs

up for Middlesexpublished at 15:54 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    Nottinghamshire v Middlesex 50-2

Max Holden gets two through leg and that is enough to see his team through to 50.

Two wickets down and with Joe Clarke shelling a good chance to remove Stevie Eskinazi, it has not been without trouble for Middlesex.

They need to dig in before stumps this evening.
