Well bowled by Brown! Wyatt has come in and done an effective job. Australia can use this new ball and then clean up the tail... unless Tammy Beaumont has other ideas.

    Wyatt c Jonassen b Brown 44 (Eng 390-5)

    A breakthrough for Australia!

Almost like catch practice for Wyatt, she guides an uppish ball from Darcie Brown neatly into the hands of Jonassen at second slip.

An impressive debut innings from Wyatt, her 44 coming from 47 balls. A fine partnership of 72 there.

  3. Eng 387-4published at 103 overs

Four more for Danni Wyatt. Short from Garth and the England debutant nonchalantly cuts it to the ropes through backward point.

This has been an excellent innings from Wyatt, she hasn't looked overwhelmed by this format.

Leaky from Garth, her only dot was a wide one that Wyatt left well alone.

Meanwhile Beaumont moves to 180 - that's the second-highest individual score for England.

Tammy Beaumont has now moved to third on the list of highest Test scores for England women, and needs just two runs to go past Rachel Heyhoe-Flint's 179 v Australia in 1976.

It's also the third highest in all forms of cricket for England having eclipsed the the 173 not out made by Charlotte Edwards in an ODI against Ireland in 1997.

Betty Snowball's 88-year record of 189 is starting to move into view.

Danni Wyatt saw that width from Brown so early, the bat got up high early and she hit it above and over, she wasn't interested in hitting it down the ground.

  6. Eng 382-4published at 102 overs

Full and wide from Darcie Brown. Wyatt picks it and with a flick of her wrist lofts it to the point boundary for four.

Brown may be disappointed with that delivery, those were the only runs from the over.

  7. Eng 378-4published at 101 overs

Seam at both ends now as Kim Garth re-enters the attack. Her first two balls are sprayed down the leg-side to be collected by a diving Alyssa Healy. Not quite wides, apparently.

Her next delivery is tighter, Wyatt is able to push it away for a single. And hello, is that a touch of swing as she beats the bat of Tammy Beaumont? Then her next delivery beats the England opener again, that kept very low.

Alyssa Healy puts her arm around Garth as they change ends - she should be focusing on how that over finished, not how it started.

If this partnership can knock off most of the deficit then there is still quite a lot of great batting to come, so you feel Australia need to use this new ball and if they don't England are just going to chip away.

    Eng 377-4

Tidy first over from Darcie Brown. Danni Wyatt takes the one run from it, sending the ball to long leg.

All eyes on Beaumont on 178, approaching England's international high score of 189, but Wyatt's on 33 from 35 on Test debut - that'll do nicely.

We've reached 100 overs and the half-way point of this afternoon session. We're taking drinks.

That was Tammy Beaumont's 24th four and that is the most amount of fours any England woman has hit in a Test match innings.

  11. new ball

New ballpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 24 June 2023

It's an end to the afternoon of spin - Australia take the new ball after 19 overs of having it available.

Darcie Brown is on to replace Ash Gardner.

  12. Eng 376-4published at 99 overs

Wyatt drives to cover to bring up the fifty partnership for this pair. It comes off 74 balls.

Gorgeous shot from Beaumont. She comes down the pitch to Jonassen and creams it through the covers.

  13. Eng 367-4published at 98 overs

Gardner tightens that run tap, holding this partnership to two singles.

That's the Danni Wyatt we were used to seeing. She won't be afraid to go over the top, using her feet and going down the ground. That's a natural shot for her to play which makes her so great in T20's.

  15. Eng 365-4published at 97 overs

Wallop! Danni Wyatt brings her white-ball pedigree to the Test arena, stepping down the pitch to crash Jonassen back over her head for four.

Another boundary now - Jonassen's delivery sits up nicely and she pulls her hard to the ropes, the ball slipping under the diving Tahlia McGrath.

  16. Eng 354-4published at 96 overs

Beaumont drives Gardner to mid-off to bring up England's 350. She moves to 168 - that's her highest score in international cricket.

She paddles the following delivery over her shoulder - it eeks its way to the third boundary, beating the chasing fielder.

I look forward to seeing how Jess Jonassen comes around the wicket to Wyatt and Beaumont and pitch the ball in line with the stumps.

The sweep shot against the left-arm orthodox is more likely to bring in the lbw. With the way Alana King is bowling, the ball is turning quite a bit and Beaumont is free to sweep.

This is a great move from Healy.

  18. Eng 349-4published at 95 overs

A change in the bowling after 11 overs of the afternoon session. Still more spin and no new ball as Jess Jonassen replaces Alana King.

Australia have used eight bowlers in this innings - England only used six. Only opening batters Phoebe Litchfield and Beth Mooney and keeper Alyssa Healy haven't had their turn with the ball.

Just the single from Jonassen's first over as Beaumont takes another single to square leg.

  19. Eng 348-4published at 94 overs

A tad more impetus from Tammy Beaumont, lumping a ball hard to square leg (did she read my last post?) before coming down the pitch to hit hard to mid-on.

    Just the singles though.

  20. Eng 346-4published at 93 overs

Singles from the bowling of King - Beaumont pushes to point while Wyatt drives into the covers.

We haven't seen a great deal of leg-side runs in this session.
