You can understand why Australia have opted for the tactic of giving Rahane the single to bowl more at Thakur, given how much he struggled this morning.

It looks like Warner has misjudged it. He was moving to his right but ended up throwing up a hand to try to catch it one-handed up to his left.

Ajinkya Rahane got a nasty blow on his finger yesterday and Pat Cummins, immediately after returning to the attack, has struck him there again.

The India fans are starting to enjoy themselves now. Shardul Thakur drops and runs to steal a single and then Rahane eases away another textbook drive - both shots are greeted with loud cheers and waving flags.

Shardul Thakur has really battled hard. He didn't look like surviving, but he has shown great character and great courage.

Ajinkya Rahane is the old pro, the experienced head out there, but it is a partnership that can really lift a dressing room.

Mitchell Starc is round the wicket to these two right-handers.
