If I were Australia, I'd definitely want to be bowling before tea.

That was an absolute beauty from Mohammed Shami. He has not had much luck.
How many times have we seen him beat the bat? Alex Carey is a lucky boy.

I'm jealous, Claire. Quite the day to be there too.
The one thing we don't often consider in these situations where we think the second new ball will do all sorts is the oomph in the bodies of the bowlers. India will have been up for it, pulsing with adrenaline yesterday as they still hoped for a win.
They'll have already been lacking that today and it will only get worse as Alex Carey inside edges over his stumps for four.

The salt and pepper calamari at Newlands the day of sandpapergate. Let's not mention the wine there, appalling for a great wine country. Thankfully the beer is fresh and cold.
Claire from Islington
India do take the new ball right away. Seamer Mohammed Shami is going to bowl with it.
We saw yesterday the harder ball caused mayhem...

I'd definitely take the new ball because that has been the hardest passages of play we've seen throughout this Test.
What we've seen in recent times is Ben Stokes has chucked Jack Leach the ball from one end and said to get one to skid on and we'll have a seamer to cause some damage from the other end, so we could see Ravi Jadeja bowling from this end.

Mitchell Starc is just starting to crank himself up. He swings Umesh Yadav through the leg side for a boundary. He tries to repeat the shot a ball later but miscues badly, almost offering a catch.
The new ball is now available to India. Surely they'll take it?

It's not happening for India at the moment.

Alex Carey edges another, this time off Ravindra Jadeja, but it goes down quickly towards Virat Kohli's boot at slip. It wasn't really a chance and the ball continues all of the way for four, taking the lead over 400.

There will be a thought about next week with batters trying to get some time in the middle.
Carey 51, Starc 24
Australia captain Pat Cummins, the next man in, has his pads on so Australia are going to bat on for a while at least.
KS Bharat gets a fist pump from a team-mate after leaping high to cling onto a bouncer from Umesh Yadav.
There's plenty in the pitch when you bend your back.
"Yours...!"
Alex Carey brought up his fifty off 82 balls.

Australia are going along very comfortably here. A very handy knock it's been from Alex Carey as Australia just build and build.

A regulation clip and run from Alex Carey takes him to his half-century. He's applauded by his team-mates in the dressing room.
A timely knock for this game and the summer ahead.
Over in Worcester, Southern Vipers have posted a formidable 191-6 in the eliminator to reach the Charlotte Edwards Cup final.
England's Danni Wyatt top-scored with 71 for Vipers, supported by Maia Bouchier's 56.
Young spinner Olivia Bell took 4-37 for Thunder, but Sophie Ecclestone had a tough day - conceding 50 from her four overs.
The winner will play The Blaze in the final at 16:00 BST.
Mitchell Starc responds to being beaten by Umesh Yadav with a grin. He knows he's going to get to bowl soon on this lively pitch.
He then ends the over with a clip through mid-wicket and a powerful drive down the ground - both for four.
Australia women's wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy, Starc's wife, applauds proudly from the stands.

Easily the Caribbean chicken stew in Barbados....lots of love put into that.

I've timed Jadeja at 97.94 seconds for this over.
The penultimate ball erupts out of the rough ands goes between Alex Carey's bat and pad. Was there a nick there? I don't think so but Indian hands are on heads.
Wicketkeeper Bharat dropped it anyway.

Knowing what the new ball does on this pitch, you have to take it right away.
