Imagine a striker has just hit the ball to a fielder at third man or any where on the boundary. It’s only going to be a single so the batter is a bit slow and lazy and isn’t looking in the direction of the where the ball went. Throw comes in and it hits the stumps and the batter is found wanting. Would the English still want a warning for that?

    That's not really the same...

There we go. Robinson and Broad will be thinking why did we whack it in the air?!

  4. Eng 324-9published at 81 overs

Josh Tongue does well again to drop the ball into a gap in the off side and England run another single.

James Anderson then tries to repeat the trick next ball and they manage to run a leg bye.

Why doesn't Green just pitch one on the stumps? Full and straight?

    Tongue's defiance continues!

  7. Eng 322-9published at 80.2 overs

Josh Tongue steps across his stumps and helps the ball very fine, almost over the wicketkeeper, for four!

He then runs two with a swipe into the leg side - he was nearly off the square when he hit that!

  8. Eng 316-9published at 80 overs

James Anderson very nearly plays on as he fends off another short delivery.

The new ball is now due but Australia are not going to take it just yet.

    Absolutely horrible for a tailender.

There's head hunters, rib ticklers, shoulder scrunchers. There's all sorts going on! Anderson is very, very brave here.

  11. Eng 316-9published at 79.4 overs

James Anderson knows what is coming but it must be no less painful as another short delivery smashes into his forearm.

He is being given a working over here.

The game is lingering on with the hope that Anderson and Tongue can hold on long enough to make it interesting.

In regards to the Bairstow dismissal, anyone who is commenting on the laws of the game is completely missing the point. The debate is not about whether it was out, but the lack of sportsmanship. Surely the Aussies don't need to resort to such cheap tactics.

  14. Eng 316-9published at 79.1 overs

Another decent shot from Josh Tongue as he steps away and helps the ball into the off side for a single.

    Tongue moves on to 10.

It's the old Kasprowicz one. That's not out.

  16. Not outpublished at 78.5 overs

It does hit a glove - but it was his bottom hand and it was off the bat, so Anderson survives!

  17. Australia reviewpublished at 78.5 overs

Is this it? Australia think Jimmy Anderson has gloved through to Alex Carey and send it upstairs.

  18. Eng 315-9published at 78.2 overs

Josh Tongue backs away and manages to slash the ball over mid-on and England can run two.

    Ugly but effective.

That isn't ugly though, Tongue drives down the ground to long-on and England run three!

Am I the only English person who is annoyed with Bairstow for being stupid, rather than playing the victim? Absolutely nothing wrong with that dismissal at all!

    James

Maybe not the only one, James, but I don't imagine it's a big club.

  20. Eng 310-9published at 78 overs

More short stuff from Mitchell Starc that James Anderson manages to fend off.

    On we go.
