  1. Goodbye!published at 15:17 British Summer Time 23 June 2023

Scotland beat UAE by 111 runs (Scotland 282-8 v UAE 171)

You hear that? It's the sound of my laptop shutting for the day.

Thank you for joining us as we watched Scotland - in the end - comprehensively beat the UAE and put themselves in a fantastic position to qualify for the Super Six stage of the World Cup qualifiers.

Captain Richie Berrington starred with his 127 total, with Safyaan Sharif and Chris Sole doing superbly with the ball in hand.

With that 111-run win, they've helped their net run rate as well. Oman are next up on Sunday, and that will be a crunch game. A win there would seal their spot.

We shall see you then, bright and early. Goodbye!

  2. 'Clinical' and 'comfortable' - Berringtonpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 23 June 2023

Scotland beat UAE by 111 runs (Scotland 282-8 v UAE 171)

Scotland skipper Richie Berrington is back on to speak to Sky Sports. Don't ask me!

"It was important after the win against Ireland. We turned up and adapted to conditions at a different ground. It was pleasing to put in such a clinical performance with the ball to make it pretty comfortable.

"The longer you spend out there, the easier it gets so it was good to get a partnership with Leasky. For us, we have to keep executing well and getting better as each game comes.

"As a team, we speak a lot about being aggressive and taking wickets. The way Chris Sole started was excellent. He brings so much energy, he's always creating opportunities and I was pleased for him. We managed to get wickets all the way through, which is a real positive."

Scotland beat UAE by 111 runs (Scotland 282-8 v UAE 171)

Scotland skipper and player of the match Richie Berrington tells Sky Sports: "It's obviously pleasing to make a contribution for the team, to get us to a decent score after a tough first hour. A lot of credit should go to the UAE bowlers, they made it tough at times and it was a real graft.

"We knew the first hour would have a bit on offer for the bowlers. The UAE bowlers asked a lot of questions of us. We were under pressure after losing quick wickets but Michael Leask playing that positive way he does took a lot of pressure off. Mark Watt towards the end, it was a fantastic knock from him again.

"It wasn't the sort of wicket were timing came easy. I was trying to get to a place where we could cash in at the back end of the innings."

  4. SCOTLAND WIN BY 111 RUNS!published at 14:55 British Summer Time 23 June 2023

    UAE 171 (target 283)

A thrilling win over Ireland is followed by a clinical victory, spearheaded by captain Richie Berrington.

Scotland started poorly with the bat before being dragged to victory by their captain, who top-scored with 127. He was assisted ably by Michael Leask (41) and Mark Watt (44).

Then, the bowlers got their time to shine. Safyaan Sharif recorded an impressive 4-20, with Chris Sole finishing on 3-37.

That means two wins from two in Group B of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.

  5. wicket

WICKET Khan b Sharif 0published at 35.3 overs

    UAE 171-all out

Well that didn't last long, did it?

A sizzling Sharif yorker gives Scotland the win!

  6. wicket

WICKET Siddique c Sole b Sharif 2published at 35.1 overs

    171-9 (target 283)

Sharif starts another over with a wicket - his third of the day.

Junaid Siddique puts all his weight on the back foot, trying to launch the ball out of the ground, but instead it goes straight to Chris Sole.

UAE are on the brink of defeat now. Zahoor Khan is the last man in.

  7. Postpublished at 34 overs

    UAE 170-8 (target 283)

Two batsman left. Junaid Siddique is the tenth man in. There's an early miscommunication with Meiyappan, who does not want the single run.

He pushes the next delivery wide, again there's a miscommunication and it's almost a comedy run out, but Richie Berrington misses with his throw.

That should have been a wicket! The fielders are giggling! Surely a run out is on the way?

Apparently not. Meiyappan puts Sharif away to square leg for four.

  8. wicket

WICKET Afzal Khan c Jarvis b Sharif 21published at 33.1 overs

    UAE 165-8 (target 283)

He strikes immediately! Exactly what Scotland needed.

Just as the UAE were finding a rhythm, Afzal Khan bites. He stands up tall, trying to smash it over the covers but he doesn't time it right and spoons it straight to Jarvis.

Very hard to see the UAE getting back into this.

  9. Postpublished at 33 overs

    UAE 165-7 (target 283)

Mark Watt is back on, switching up the pace delivery to delivery. A single run from that over, with the required run rate spurting slightly higher.

It's a beautifully bowled over from Watt, proving just as effective with ball in hand.

Safyaan Sharif is back on for the next over.

  10. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 32 overs

    UAE 164-7 (target 283)

Scotland are persisting with the leg-spinner Chris Greaves, but it was proving expensive.

And then he drops Meiyappan! The UAE batsman crunches it straight back at Greaves, who showed good reflexes to get a hand to it... but it spilled out and ended up trickling down his back to the deck.

Will that be a sliding doors moment?

  11. Postpublished at 31 overs

    UAE 159-7 (target 283)

Aayan Afzal Khan scored 58 against Oman, so he is a genuine all-rounder - as opposed to Meiyappan, whose ODI average is just 8.

However, he's steaming on today and Scotland could do with stopping this partnership before it really gets growing.

  12. Postpublished at 30 overs

    UAE 156-7 (target 283)

Jack Jarvis is given another by Richie Berrington, with Scotland probably just on top.

Just six from it, but Meiyappan shows he's not just a tailender as he puts on to the rope at square leg.

He does the same when Chris Greaves comes on in the next over, sending him for two fours. In this leggie v leggie battle, Meiyappan is coming out on top.

  13. Postpublished at 28 overs

    UAE 141-7 (target 283)

Kathik Meiyappan is on, and his first ball sees a big appeal from Greaves from LBW. Nothing given.

He cuts the next away to get himself off the mark. Just three from the over in the end.

  14. wicket

WICKET Hameed b Greaves 30published at 27.1 overs

    UAE 138-7 (target 283)

After their most encouraging over with bat in hand, the UAE lose the man spearheading the counter-charge.

Hameed moved to the off side and tried to cut it, but the googly forced the error, and he could only play onto his stumps.

The UAE are well ahead in terms of runs, but they have lost a lot of wickets. Can any of their bowlers produce some runs?

  15. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 27 overs

    UAE 138-6 (target 283)

20-year-old Jack Jarvis is on, the all-rounder coming in for his first spell with ball in hand.

His second delivery is deposited with disdain, his length not entertained by Basil Hameed. A harsh lesson at this level.

Two balls later, Afzal Khan puts it away for four. The next ball meets the same result. Brutal, costly, stuff.

  16. Postpublished at 26 overs

    UAE 123-6 (target 283)

Greaves lets a loose one go and Aayan Afzal Khan finally accepts the invitation, getting off the mark with a boundary. It's hardly convincing, but it has enough to make it to the rope.

The next one is a yorker that Afzal Khan almost plays onto his own stumps.

    Six from the over.

  17. Postpublished at 25 overs

    UAE 117-6 (target 283)

After an expensive over, Chris Greaves follows up with a single run from his latest.

Chris Sole will continue. It's aggressive from Scotland! An eighth over for the seamer. It starts well with three dots, before a double.

The last ball goes for four though, as Hameed cuts behind point. It's a stoic innings from the 31-year-old so far.

  18. wicket

WICKET Naseer c Leask b Sole 19published at 22.5 overs

    UAE 110-6 (target 283)

Scotland strike again! It's a brilliant catch from Michael Leask, and quite the celebration as well, cupping a hand to his ear. I wonder what prompted that...

Sole's delivery moved just a little wide as it came to Naseer and he ended up slicing it more than intended. A good innings comes to a premature end.

Just when you think they're playing themselves in, the UAE lose another and Scotland pick up a vital wicket.

Young Aayan Afzal Khan is the next man in.

  19. Postpublished at 22.4 overs

    UAE 110-5 (target 283)

Chris Sole is back on, from the end he started from this time. Richie Berrington really is shuffling the deck, trying to get rid of those expensive overs.

Ali Naseer has impressed with the bat so far. He clobbers Sole through wide mid-on.

  20. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 22 overs

    UAE 105-5 (target 283)

Well, Greaves tosses a loosener down the track and Basil Hameed punishes it, swatting it away for six. That's the 100 up for the UAE.

Naseer then gets on strike and cut it to square powerfully. You aren't catching that ball.

They aren't letting Greaves settle into the bowling attack at all.
