  1. wicket

WICKET Sharma c Greaves b Sole 8published at 4.2 overs

    UAE 21-1 (target 283)

Sharma is totally beaten by that one!

Sole corrected the length, punched it into him and Sharma couldn't read the bounce, nicking it to Greaves in the slips.

That's a shame, he'd played a couple of lovely shots but he didn't have an answer to that.

  2. Umpire reviewpublished at 4 overs

    UAE 21-0 (target 283)

Exquisite shot from Aryansh Sharma, the teenage keeper. It's a textbook cover drive, stand and deliver right through to the rope. His first boundary.

Matthew Cross is keeping, and next ball he tries for a stumping. It goes upstairs to Lesley Riefer... on second-viewing, it's much closer than imagined.

    But crucially, it's not out.

Muhammad Waseem finishes with a boundary. Not a bad start from the UAE at all.

  3. Postpublished at 3 overs

    UAE 12-0 (target 283)

Better over from Chris Sole, just three off it and he had Muhammad Waseem pinged back in his crease, beating him for pace on a few occasions.

  4. Postpublished at 2 overs

    UAE 9-0 (target 283)

Brandon McMullen is on. He's overcome a stomach bug that is ripping through the squad, and will be looking to build on his five-wicket haul against Ireland.

Bowler and keeper Cross are combining well though, and that's a solitary run from that over.

  5. Waseem starts stronglypublished at 1 over

    UAE 8-0 (target 283)

Ah. Muhammad Waseem creams one after being offered a touch of width, just flashing his hands at it for the first boundary.

With the final ball of the over, he flashes one off the pads and it runs all the way to the rope.

    Not the ideal start.

  6. Back underway!published at 0 overs

    UAE 0-0 (target 283)

It will be Chris Sole to get Scotland's bowling attack underway.

It's captain Muhammad Waseem and Aryansh Sharma to open, with the skipper on strike.

The first one is a beauty! Bang on the money, and it comes through to the keeper Matthew Cross. A lovely start.

  7. Watt 'would have bitten hand off' for 282published at 11:57 British Summer Time 23 June 2023

    Scotland 282-8 v UAE

Scotland's Mark Watt spoke to Sky Sports: "It was a superb innings from the skipper. He’s got previous at this ground for batting nicely. It gets us to a very competitive total.

"I’d have bitten your hand off for 282. The wicket is still doing a bit, there’s turn and movement. They’re a strong batting team so we have to do well.

"When he [Berrington] gets in he’s one of the best batsman in the world. I’m very happy for him. The left and right hand combo, with the wind, worked really well for us.

"We’ve got to keep the stumps in play at all costs and not overcomplicate it.

"I played golf yesterday and that helped, freed me up a bit. Hopefully you can chat to me again after my bowling!"

    And breathe.

After a very shaky start, a Richie Berrington masterclass has given Scotland a solidly competitive 282-8.

He was helped along the way by Michael Leask - once again playing the role of firefighter - Chris Greaves and the superb Mark Watt.

The UAE looked fiery in spells, but couldn't find consistency for long and weren't helped by a couple of misfields. They did put Scotland under real pressure but just couldn't turn the screw.

Scotland will take confidence from that.

  9. wicket

WICKET Berrington run out Sharma 127published at 50 overs

    Scotland 282-8 v UAE

Scotland won with the final ball of the innings against Ireland. With this, they lose captain Richie Berrington who is run out.

The skipper squirts it away towards deep square leg, and decides to hare back for the second. It's another dolphin dive, but it's not enough after a look upstairs.

    Scotland 282-8 v UAE

    Crikey, what a final over.

First ball, Berrington is dropped. He has a huge mow at it and slices it. Opposite captain Waseem runs in from long on but makes a hash of it.

Next ball, he goes for six and smashes it over cow corner!

After a single, Watt is on strike and puts it away for four. But we aren't done there...

  11. 6 runs

    Scotland 267-7 v UAE

Mark Watt waited on that slow ball from Zahoor Khan and sent it on it's way over mid-wicket. Another massive maximum.

It's been another solid innings with the blade from the Derbyshire spinner.

However, after that first ball, Khan has had the beating of Watt with a couple of yorkers in a row.

Until the final ball! Again, Watt scurries across to try the scoop and executed it to perfection.

  12. Postpublished at 48 overs

    Scotland 255-7 v UAE

A change of bowler for the UAE and it was needed. Rohan Mustafa is back with the ball in hand.

Mark Watt is frustrated. He tried the reverse sweep to a full toss from Mustafa but he doesn't catch it properly and it's only a single.

Berrington is in. He gets one wrong though, scooping one straight into his grill.

    Only six off that over.

  13. 6 runs

Scotland take off!published at 47 overs

    Scotland 249-7 v UAE

And now he takes off. A one-bounce four. Watch out now - he's going for it. Ten alone in that last over. That's his ninth four of his innings, too. His second 50 came off just 44 balls.

Another six! It's a little predictable from Siddique, Berrington knew it would be slower and he put it away and then some.

Mark Watt will tee off, too. There he goes, scampering across his crease and scooping it over the stumps to the boundary short fine leg. 19 from the over!

  14. 100 runs

    100published at 45.5 overs

    Scotland 227-7

Oh Richie Berrington. Another boundary, two doubles... he's on 99. Can he do it? It would be his first ton since May 2022 against the USA.

He's taking his time. Zahoor Khan is happy to wait and let the pressure build.

And he slaps it away for a single. That's all he needed! Scotland's captain answers the crisis call! What a knock!

  15. Postpublished at 45 overs

    Scotland 219-7 v UAE

That was a far better over from the UAE. Far less costly at just six.

Another three from Berrington. He's edging towards the big one.

  16. Postpublished at 44 overs

    Scotland 213-7 v UAE

Small appeal from Zahoor Khan on the final ball, but it's another good over from the Scots.

Plenty of quick running and another four from the skipper. He's up to 87 and Scotland are nearing that 250 target.

This partnership is at 41 from 31 balls, and already the third biggest of Scotland's innings. Don't be surprise if it leaps up the ranks.

  17. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 43 overs

    Scotland 203-7 v UAE

Mark Watt is the latest to get the maximum, swatting a bouncer from Ali Naseer a long, long way over the rope. That brings up the 200. That ball is gone, and the new one is delivered into the hands of Ali Naseer.

They have time to make that 250 mark. That's another 11 from the over.

  18. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 42 overs

    Scotland 192-7 v UAE

A lot is expected of this partnership. It almost ended quickly, as Mark Watt sliced one into the air. Thankfully for him, it bounced short of Shahzad Rameez.

Richie Berrington is on strike and whips it beautifully over the cow corner for a big six. That should give them confidence. 11 from the over.

  19. Postpublished at 41 overs

    Scotland 181-7 v UAE

Six off that Naseer over, with Mark Watt scoring his first boundary with the final ball. He's on six from seven, and it was the first Scotland boundary in a long time.

Berrington is on 67 from 106 - his run rate has really slowed in the last few overs, determined to make sure that Scotland have their full 50 overs.

Now, this is interesting. The spinner Karthik Meiyappan is back on.

  20. Powerplaypublished at 40 overs

    Scotland 175-7 v UAE

Just the three off that over from Zahoor Khan. At least Mark Watt got underway with a quick single.

We're into the final 10 overs with Ali Naseer back on.
