  2. wicket

WICKET Jarvis c Sharma b Naseer 2published at 38.4 overs

    Scotland 172-7 v UAE

He really didn't know how to play him! Another ripper from Naseer and Jarvis edges behind.

It's well taken by the teenage keeper Aryansh Sharma, but it's really all about the delivery. He's down on one knee celebrating, shooting an arrow into the sky.

It's a disappointing early exit from Jarvis, who just didn't move his feet enough.

Mark Watt is in. 47 off 43 in the game against Ireland. Another big performance needed.

  3. Postpublished at 38.3 overs

    Scotland 172-6 v UAE

Ali Naseer comes on for his second spell. He's fast, he's jaggy and Jarvis hasn't got to grips with how to play him.

  4. Jarvis off the markpublished at 38 overs

    Scotland 171-6 v UAE

Jarvis gets off the mark with a gentle drive to cover, but that was a much better over from Siddique.

Zahoor Khan is back from the other end. He puts another one down leg side and that's now six wides for the innings.

He's not far away with his fourth ball, which nips back and squirms millimetres past leg stump.

The run projection is now at 226 - but Scotland will be aiming for at least 250.

  5. wicket

WICKET Greaves b Siddique 22published at 36.4 overs

    Scotland 166-6 v UAE

    Never mind. Commentator's curse.

That's outstanding bowling from Junaid Siddique. It nips back in with fiery pace and hits the top of off. It's too good for Chris Greaves.

Here comes Jack Jarvis for just his second ODI.

  6. Postpublished at 36.3 overs

    Scotland 166-5 v UAE

This is a very similar situation to the Ireland game - the middle order has come to Scotland's rescue. Of course, we still have a fair few overs left and the UAE still have to bat. But we know Scotland can do it from here.

  7. Postpublished at 36 overs

    Scotland 165-5 v UAE

And it's Zahoor Khan from the other end - another seamer. Aggressive from the UAE. It's moving, staying down, nipping inside, but Scotland are playing it well.

Ali Naseer has shown good footwork on the boundary to stop a four, before Richie Berrington dolphin dives to ensure a run. We're seeing some skills out there.

Next ball, Chris Greaves grasps at one hard and it goes straight to the slip cordon - but no one is there!

  8. Postpublished at 35 overs

    Scotland 157-5 v UAE

The UAE have had enough of their spinners getting lobbed around. Junaid Siddique is back on. Can the seemer continue the fine form of his first spell?

And there's already something we didn't see. A wide down the leg side.

Far sloppier thus far. Six off the over, and Siddique isn't moving as comfortably as he once was.

  9. drinks break

    Drinks breakpublished at 34 overs

    Scotland 151-5 v UAE

Chris Greaves getting in on it now, sweeping Meiyappan away for four. It's the best performance of the UAE spinner's competition so far, despite that.

He's now asked captain Waseem for a bit more protection. They change it for one ball, and then change it back again. Greaves is winning this battle.

4-1-1-1-1-1 from that over. The tempo is back up as we have some drinks.

  10. Postpublished at 33 overs

    Scotland 142-5 v UAE

It's been hard work for Richie Berrington. He's watched wickets fall around him, moved up to accommodate the loss of George Munsey.

Scotland needed something from their captain and he has given them it. Now he needs to build on a partnership with Chris Greaves.

Now Aayan Afzal Khan is back on, and he is being hit all over the ground. Berrington picks up another four as he rocks back and slams it past deep cover.

    Ten off the over.

  11. 50 runs

    50published at 32 overs

    Scotland 128-5 v UAE

And Richie Berrington now slog-sweeps the ball for four. He's not far away now.

Two balls later - he makes it! It was a very quick second run, but that showed you how much he wanted it.

That's a massive weight off for the skipper. It's been a wee while since he last got to the half-ton.

  12. Postpublished at 31 overs

    Scotland 124-5 v UAE

Chris Greaves is able to firefight - he's done for Scotland before. The situation isn't quite as dire but Richie Berrington needs help.

He waits for a straighter one from Khan, stretches and slogs for his first boundary - just a four.

    Five off that over.

  13. Postpublished at 30 overs

    Scotland 119-5 v UAE

We have our first run in 13 balls as Chris Greaves gets off the mark.

It's been a fantastic spell from the spinners in the last couple of overs, now living up to the high standards that the seamers set early on.

Berrington adds three. The key man creeping towards 50. This is highest score in well over 12 months.

  14. Postpublished at 29 overs

    Scotland 115-5 v UAE

Back-to-back maidens as Afzal Khan mounts the pressure back on Scotland.

Specifically - there's a lot of pressure on captain Richie Berrington - the last recognised out-and-out batsman in the Scotland ranks.

Does he go for it now? Does he continue to play his own way? Stable, but a little slow.

  15. Postpublished at 28 overs

    Scotland 115-5 v UAE

Chris Greaves blocks out the remaining five balls and it's a wicket-maiden over for Karthik Meiyappan.

Suddenly, Scotland are on the back-foot again. Cricket really can change as quick as that.

  16. wicket

WICKET Leask c Zahoor Khan b Meiyappan 41published at 27.1 overs

    Scotland 115-5 v UAE

It was all going too well, wasn't it?

Trying to sweep it, Leask top edges high into the Zimbabwe sky and Zahoor Khan chases it, keeps his eye on it well and gathers.

It's a disappointing end to a crucial spell from Leask. 41 off 46 balls. He was looking so dangerous.

Chris Greaves is the next man out.

  17. Postpublished at 27 overs

    Scotland 115-4 v UAE

Afzal Khan is back on, and is swiftly punched through the covers by Michael Leask for four. Lovely stuff.

Berrington then gets on strike after a single and sends the last ball of the over to the rope, sweeping the full ball past short fine leg.

    Expensive over.

  18. Postpublished at 26 overs

    Scotland 106-4 v UAE

What's that in the air? A change of momentum? A shift in optimism? Michael Leask certainly is the man for a crisis.

As I type that, there's an appeal for a stumping. Leslie Reifer is the television official... but it's a straightforward decision, as Leask's toes remain glued behind his crease.

There's another appeal two balls later. LBW? Catch? Neither.

The next ball is swept down to fine short leg by Berrington and the ball wins the race. Four.

  19. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 25 overs

    Scotland 100-4 v UAE

Mustafa's first ball threatens to dismiss Leask, as he prods a defensive shot that trickles past the stumps. The Scot isn't happy with himself.

He's happy with the next shot though, sweeping for a huge six - against the wind as well. An absolute beauty of a shot.

That's the 50 partnership for Leask and Berrington - and the 100 is up for the Scots on the next ball as Leask nicks two. Great running.

  20. Postpublished at 24 overs

    Scotland 92-4 v UAE

Five from the latest over against Meiyappan - all of them singles. You'll take it.
