There has been a number of batters bowled which suggests staying on the stumps and back of a length is the whippet on this wicket. It has worked for Brydon Carse in particular.

  2. wicket

    Milne b Carse 10 (NZ 129-8)

    Got 'im!

Off-cutter from Brydon Carse and Adam Milne gets nowhere near it with a wold leg-side hack.

The ball cannons into middle and leg. New Zealand are eight down with five balls left in the innings.

I'm a little confused by what happened in the middle. The intent was good but the mode of some of the dismissals were aggressive and whether it lacked a little bit of team play. It would be interesting to know if they thought they needed 160-170.

  4. NZ 129-7published at 19 overs

Excellent recovery from Sam Curran after his first ball went for six.

He nails a couple of wide yorkers before deceiving Ish Sodhi with a slower ball that is chipped up but somehow lands safely.

One over to go, Brydon Carse will bowl it...

Look at the last two shots and you're thinking 'eh, this is a good surface' and New Zealand are going to be well short.

They started well and look like finishing well but it was just a jumble in the middle.

    NZ 125-7published at 18.1 overs

Slower ball to start form Sam Curran... but Ish Sodhi launches it over the leg side for six!

That's another big hit. These square boundaries are not short by any stretch.

Sam Curran is very good. His skills are high but he is such a competitive player, who likes being in the game. Just having that person you can turn to change the game is really important.

Here comes Sam Curran to bowl the penultimate over...

Adam Milne has got a big piece of that and it went well over the boundary. Those are valuable runs.

  11. 6 runs

    NZ 119-7published at 18 overs

Adam Milne skips down the ground and has hit this a very long way!

High over deep mid-wicket with a bit of flair, too, to put a dent in Liam Livingstone's figures at the end of a good spell.

That is an unusual four overs from Luke Wood. There are 16 dots in there but it has gone one way and then the other. In the end I think he'll take three wickets though.

It hasn't looked as hard as 107-7. It is the mode of dismissals that you've got to look at, they've just been a little bit careless.

  15. NZ 107-7published at 17 overs

Ish Sodhi gets off the mark with a very well-executed uppercut.

Using the pace of Luke Wood and getting the ball up and over the wicketkeeper for four.

That was like one of my drives, it just had a nice fade on it.

The slowness of the wicket just pushed the ball wider and wider and it is a really excellent catch by Sam Curran.

That was a really well taken catch by Sam Curran.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16.3 overs

    Phillips c Curran b L Wood 41 (NZ 103-7)

    Brilliant catch!

Glenn Phillips nails another one, straighter this time and in the air.

The ball looks to be going straight to Sam Curran but hoops away from him late and he adjusts very well to cling onto it.

That was there to be hit really and Glenn Phillips was very happy to receive the invitation.

  20. NZ 103-6published at 16.2 overs

Smashed through the covers for four by Glenn Phillips.

Luke Wood only missed his yorker by about an inch but that was enough for Phillips. Great shot.
