Daryl Mitchell was done a little bit there by the ball before that turned a little bit. He ended up just clothing that shot off the outside edge a bit.

    That is a big wicket.

    Mitchell c Brook b Livingstone 7 (NZ 75-5)

Liam Livingstone into the attack and gets a wicket third ball!

He beat the bat the ball before with a big-turning leg break and Daryl Mitchell decided he wasn't waiting to be done by another.

The Kiwi right-hander aims a big shot down the ground but there's more turn for Livingstone and the ball comes off the outside half of the bat.

It goes high but not long enough. Harry Brook takes the catch at long-off.

That is a really good shot. It was very full and he didn't need to move his feet. He hit it with some venom so it beat Jonny Bairstow.

  4. NZ 74-4published at 11 overs

Crunched! Back past mid-off for four by Glenn Phillips.

It's a half-volley from Brydon Carse and Phillips punishes it.

  5. NZ 67-4published at 10.2 overs

Very risky second run attempted by New Zealand as Glenn Phillips takes on Liam Livingstone's arm.

The throw was on target and had the sun not been in Jos Buttler's eyes and he'd been able to take the ball cleanly, Phillips was gone.

After the first over when Luke Wood got dispatched England have pulled it back.

They've bowled tight to the stumps and at good pace. The spin twins have then come in and dried everything up in the middle.

Here is the third of those. Moeen Ali got just enough turn to bowl Mark Chapman...

England have hit the stumps three times in the first eight overs - that is the first time they've done that in the first eight overs of a men's T20.

  9. NZ 64-4published at 10 overs

Brydon Carse slips in the outfield but recovers to make a good stop as the ball threatens to spin past him.

He's called into action again next ball as Glenn Phillips cuts Moeen Ali firmly. Carse has to put the dive in and makes another good stop in the deep.

Having been hit for three sixes in a row in the first over, Luke Wood has come back well to take two wickets.

Here is the second of them. A slower ball to bowl Tim Seifert...

  11. NZ 57-4published at 9 overs

Much slower delivery from Adil Rashid to end the over.

Glenn Phillips waits for it, trying to play it late but in doing so, almost waits too long and ends up having to jab the bat down at the last moment.

  12. NZ 55-4published at 8.3 overs

Drag down from Adil Rashid and Glenn Phillips rocks back and muscles the ball back over his head for four.

It will be interesting to see how New Zealand play here.

The point of this series, I think for both teams, is to find things out. There is no point prodding around and accumulating.

It is only the fifth time in England's last 33 T20s that they have taken three or more wickets in the powerplay.

Over the last four years in matches between the top 12 ranked sides in the world England's rate of taking wickets - balls per wicket - is the third worse of those 12 teams.

  15. NZ 50-4published at 8 overs

England will be delighted with this start. New Zealand need to regroup and rebuild but in a T20, there's not a whole lot of time to do so.

That is a classic off-spinners delivery. He just dragged Mark Chapman forward and it is that perfect length where you prod and lose your balance.

    Chapman b Moeen 11 (NZ 49-4)

    Another one down!

Moeen Ali strikes in his first over and this is a good one.

The ball drifts into Mark Chapman, the left-hander tries to turn it to leg but it grips and turns just enough to beat the edge and hit off stump.

England are well on top now.

Brydon Carse doesn't have a great T20 record so far. He averages over 40 and going at over nine an over prior to today.

Brydon Carse has been very impressive on his T20 debut for England.

The seamer has one wicket so far. Here it is, Finn Allen bowled for 21...

  20. NZ 46-3published at 7 overs

Very good comeback from Adil Rashid. The England leg-spinner concedes just two from his next five balls.
