Adam Milne can play. He's a good player.

It's definitely the right decision to send him in ahead of Tim Southee with there being a few balls remaining.

  2. NZ 99-6published at 16 overs

Not a wicket, not even close despite that, erm, interesting review.

But a very steady over from Liam Livingstone, just three singles from it.

Do you think England should lose both of their reviews for that?

    Henry Moeran
    BBC Test Match Special commentator

That is one of the all-time terrible reviews.

    Toe... of the bat.

  6. Not outpublished at 15.3 overs

Bat and only bat. Pretty much in the middle of it.

The less said about that review the better!

  7. England reviewpublished at 15.3 overs

England have reviewed on the sly after a full toss from Liam Livingstone is dug out by Glenn Phillips.

Jos Buttler thinks it's hit boot first. Nobody else is in the least bit convinced...

    Matthew Henry
    BBC Sport at Chester-le-Street

It's all very calm both on and off the pitch here. The crowd feels intrigued without being properly into it.

    Stephen Fleming
Former New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special

New Zealand will want at least 150 to be competitive.

  10. NZ 96-6published at 15 overs

I'm not saying that England don't think much of Adam Milne's chances of picking Adil Rashid but they've got a slip and a leg slip in for him in the 15th over of a T20...

Two dot balls to end the over.

That was aggressive defence from Adil Rashid. It was very good from him. Mitchell Santner wanted to come down the wicket but Rashid just pulled the air out of it and dropped it short.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.4 overs

    Santner c L Wood b Rashid 8 (NZ 96-6)

    Smart bowling from Adil Rashid!

The spinner sees Mitchell Santner coming at him, Rashid drags his length back and bowls it that bit wider too.

That forces Santner to throw his arms at it and the sends the ball tamely to Luke Wood at backward point.

    Stephen Fleming
Former New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special

New Zealand have been a bit clumsy I've felt from watching the dismissals.

There has been a lot of intent but the timing has just been a little bit clumsy.

Glenn Phillips is showing the way. He's playing beautifully.

  14. NZ 93-5published at 14 overs

Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner are running well between the wickets but England's fielding in the deep has been superb, not only in terms of denying boundaries but also keeping the batters to one when they want two.

  15. Postpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 30 August 2023

Liam Livingstone is about to bowl his second over. He got rid of Daryl Mitchell in his first...

  16. NZ 89-5published at 13 overs

The sun is causing Jos Buttler real problems when the ball is thrown in from the deep and he has to turn his back on one from Liam Livingstone, thankfully for England there was a fielder backing it up.

A good slower ball from Sam Curran ends the over with a dot.

  17. Postpublished at 19:00 British Summer Time 30 August 2023

    Ebony Rainford-Brent
Former England batter on BBC Test Match Special

That was all about the hands. He picked up the slower ball quickly and then set himself and worked it away with his hands.

  18. NZ 85-5published at 12.2 overs

    Top shot from Glenn Phillips!

He waits on the slower ball from Sam Curran and swats it away through square leg for four.

He is the key wicket now.

  19. NZ 80-5published at 12 overs

    Phillips 22, Santner 5

Great start for Mitchell Santner as he crashes his first ball through the covers for four!

It's a good first over for Livingstone, though, just six from it and the wicket.

You would think these games are going to be important for Liam Livingstone generally. There is Will Jacks who could do a very similar role. He'll also be looking over his shoulder at Harry Brook as well.
