  1. 6 runs

    NZ 135-2published at 14.3 overs

    Allen 77 (46), Phillips 28 (18)

Three consecutive sixes for Finn Allen!

He steps to the pitch of Rashid's first delivery to loft the spinner over the covers. The next ball goes over mid-wicket, before he splits the difference and goes straight down the ground for his third.

For the first time this series there is an element of pressure on England. I think they will welcome that as they build towards the 50-over World Cup.

  3. NZ 117-2published at 14 overs

Impressive over from Gus Atkinson, the England seamer playing in his second international. Just five from it.

Allen tries to pull his last delivery and doesn't get hold out it. A great cry of frustration from the New Zealand batter is heard loud and clear on the stump mics.

  4. NZ 112-2published at 13 overs

Two more for Phillips down to long-on to end the over.

    Glenn PhillipsImage source, PA Media

That's smart batting from Glenn Phillips. He plays the sweep shot so knows Liam Livingstone will then drop it in shorter and he is ready to pounce.

  6. 6 runs

    NZ 110-2published at 12.4 overs

Well, is this attack from New Zealand?

Perhaps sensing an opportunity against part-time spinner Liam Livingstone, Phillips sweeps hard for four and then follows up with a big six over mid-wicket two balls later.

  7. NZ 100-2published at 12 overs

Phillips brings up the New Zealand hundred from the final ball of Adil Rashid's over, pushing the ball to long-on for a single.

The tourists haven't endured many dot deliveries, but it doesn't feel like they're attacking England too hard at this stage.

Finn Allen is key and he is being rather positive, but there is still an element of risk with that he is doing. He is trying to thrash the ball when the conditions perhaps suggest a little bit more craft and patience is needed.

  9. NZ 94-2published at 11 overs

Glenn Phillips has his first four, hitting Chris Jordan to the square leg ropes.

The veteran seamer brings out his toolbox, a slower ball catches Finn Allen unawares and hits him in the midriff, before the New Zealand batter jams a good yorker into his pads and can only take a single.

Finn Allen made that look easy.

  11. 6 runs

    NZ 86-2published at 10 overs

Finn Allen brings up his fifty with a six!

Livingstone drags his last delivery short, Allen pops back in his crease and lifts the ball wide of a despairing Chris Jordan at long-on.

He reaches the landmark from 35 balls.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 9.1 overs

Seifert st Buttler b Livingstone 19 (NZ 75-2)

Seifert can keep on walking up those pavilion steps - he's out.

Fantastic ball from Livingstone, offering up sharp turn past the bat. Seifert's back foot rises off the floor attempting a drag into the leg side, and Jos Buttler whips off the bails.

In comes Glenn Phillips at four.

  13. Umpire reviewpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 3 September 2023

Is this gone? Liam Livingstone looks to have Tim Seifert stumped - he's walking off, but the umpires are taking a look.

The New Zealand batters work two more singles, this is steady accumulation from the visitors.

Can they use it as a platform to really press on?

  15. 6 runs

    NZ 73-1published at 8.4 overs

Big six from Tim Seifert, lofting Rashid over long-on!

I think that was Chris Jordan's catch. It felt like the angle was better for him and it going to his stronger side.

  17. dropped catch

    NZ 61-1published at 7.4 overs

Seifert sends a Liam Livingstone delivery high into the West Midlands sky! Will Jacks is running round... dropped, and it runs away for four to boot.

Jacks and Chris Jordan converged into the deep on the leg-side. Perhaps Chris Jordan was better placed to take the catch, Jacks was running backwards.

  18. NZ 54-1published at 7 overs

England introduce the spin of Adil Rashid as the field goes back.

Tim Seifert works two twos, Harry Brook cutting off a four at long off.

I've been really impressed with Luke Wood today. He's read the conditions brilliantly and is using his variation of pace really effectively so the batters can't quite get their timing right.
