  1. NZ 48-1published at 6 overs

Five singles from Luke Wood's first five balls as he switches ends to return to the attack. Gus Atkinson makes a fine diving stop at short fine leg to stop an Allen sweep going for four.

The New Zealand batter finds the ropes two balls later, hitting to the long-on boundary.

That's the end of the powerplay.

There's not a huge amount of movement so Finn Allen knows he can run down the pitch and hit through the line, take that length on.

So the bowlers are going to have to be smart, maybe change their pace and react to the batters coming at them.

  4. 6 runs

    NZ 39-1published at 5 overs

Lovely shot from Finn Allen to close Chris Jordan's first over, holding the pose as he lifts the England seamer down the ground.

The ball lands square on the ropes and the umpires take a look - yep, that's six.

  5. wicket

Conway run out (Moeen) 9 (New Zealand 31-1)

Yes, he's gone by a few yards.

Finn Allen, who's already found the boundary once in the over, skews Gus Atkinson's delivery into the air.

It clears the fielding ring and the New Zealand batters attempt a risky three - it wasn't on even with Conway not making his best effort to reach the crease.

A front foot no-ball from Atkinson too - at least that's an extra run.

Devon Conway didn't put the dive in. Sometimes that can cost the batter.

Oh, Devon Conway, did you need to take that run? No dive either, the opener could be gone here.

England are bowling back of a length, hitting the splice of the bat. That is the length you want to be finding.

New Zealand are struggling for confidence and they won't feel like they can stand there and whack them off that length at the moment.

    Cricket statistician on BBC One

New Zealand have not had a 50 yet this series. They have not gone three successive T20 matches without a half-century this decade, playing over 70 matches in that time. So it is rare for them to fail with the bat three matches in a row.

Solid over from Wood, keeping a tight line.

A frustrated Conway throws his arms at a delivery from the Lancashire seamer, his hand coming off the bat. The ball spirals into the air and lands safely in front of the boundary fielder.

England will try and keep Finn Allen off strike as much as possible during the powerplay. Devon Conway is a good player but he tends to take a little longer to get going.

When you choose to bat first you want to come out and impose yourselves. There doesn't seem to be much swing out there and New Zealand have made a good start.

  13. NZ 15-0published at 2 overs

Devon Conway has his first runs, picking up four from Gus Atkinson's opening delivery.

The England seamer straightens his line and just three more runs come from the over.

The New Zealand batters find the fielders and there's some hearty shouts of "No!" and "Wait on!" to be heard on the stump mics.

That is the risk with the new ball. You are trying to find that swing and therefore go full but if there isn't any, with the off-side field up, there are boundaries on offer.

  15. NZ 8-0published at 1 over

New Zealand get off the mark as Finn Allen hits consecutive fours on the drive.

Too full from Wood, but he recovers with two dots to finish the over.

As a new-ball bowler the first thing you look for is a little bit of swing. If there isn't any then the batter knows they can climb into you.

  17. NZ 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Wood raps Finn Allen's pads with his first delivery.

An lbw appeal dies in his throat, he knows that's wide of the stumps.

New Zealand will need to show some resillence in this game. England have played some good cricket but they've effectively had a free run so far.

New Zealand might need to take some more time, maybe they are trying to buy into England's power game, whereas New Zealand's is a bit more subtle than that.
