You just wonder if there is some hold in this wicket now, the last three or four overs have been more difficult to score from.

It was a terrific knock from Jonny Bairstow, though.

That is some relief for New Zealand.

    Bairstow c Mitchell b Santner 73 (Eng 105-2)

    Ah. He's done now.

Canny bowling from Santner in response to being smashed for six. He takes the pace off, tempts Bairstow into another six, and he falls for the trap, holing out to Daryl Mitchell at long-on.

The in-form Harry Brook replaces him. There's not much relief for bowlers with England's T20 line-up, is there?

Well, he's going to have to wait a bit longer.

Jonny Bairstow is not done yet. He clubs Mitch Santner for six more over mid-wicket!

Liam Livingstone has been stood shadow batting by the dugout for most of this innings.

I think he fancies a hit.

The boundary doesn't help Malan's timing much. He doesn't have much luck with one that darts along the ground though, and follows it with a streaky edge for two.

He has 10 from 12 balls so far.

Just what you want when you're struggling to get going.

Ish Sodhi offers Dawid Malan a juicy full toss that he clubs to the boundary for four.

Daryl Mitchell puts in a solid diving effort but gets a ball to the face for his troubles. He's fine, thankfully.

This is the first time we've seen Rachin Ravindra in this series.

Before it began Sam Dalling caught up with the Kiwi all-rounder to find out more about him.

A trip to India, during a break, was discussed, as was following some mindset approaches outlined by former Australia player Shane Watson.

    Meet New Zealand's deep-thinking all-rounder Rachin Ravindra.

Rachin Ravindra, who is in to the side tonight in place of Devon Conway, starts well with three dots to Bairstow.

But it doesn't last long. Bairstow clears the front leg and swipes firmly for a flat six over square leg!

Halfway through the innings and England are in a great position to go big.

  12. Eng 84-1published at 9 overs

Dawid Malan looks scratchy, playing and missing before mis-timing a couple of singles.

Bairstow looks anything but. He thumps Ish Sodhi over extra cover for four more.

That is a poor delivery, and it just allows Dawid Malan a little bit of breathing space.

These are crucial times for Malan - how long can he stunt the innings for? In high-scoring games every run is very important.

  15. Eng 76-1published at 8 overs

Not what you need when the ball has been flying to the boundary with ease.

Mitch Santner fires one down leg for a wide, the keeper has no chance so it dribbles away for four.

It is Jonny Bairstow's 10th half-century in T20is. It is his fastest too.

    Eng 67-1

Bairstow brings up his half-century just a couple of balls after Jacks' departure, dabbing a single down the ground for an easy single to reach it.

It comes from just 26 balls.

The under-pressure Dawid Malan joins him in the middle.

The ball might have looked short to Will Jacks but it just skidded on and didn't get above stump height. It probably wasn't there for the cut, it was too full and straight.

That is good work from the keeper.
