    New Zealand get their first!

Will Jacks wasn't finding batting as easy as his opening partner, scratching his way to 16 from 15 balls before cutting a ball through to the keeper.

Tim Seifert juggles it, but holds on to a smart catch in the end. There's barely an appeal, but the bowlers look pretty grateful to have a chance to take a breath after Bairstow's blitz.

Yeah, I think that's quite comfortably England's powerplay.

Will Jacks has barely had a say, but he does take four of his own in this over.

It's been all Bairstow, though. He's rattled on to 48 from 24.

Well, he's hit four of them already...

It has got that feeling at the moment that the crowd are always just waiting for the next Jonny Bairstow six. There is a little murmur while they wait.

    Poor bowling.

Sometimes in T20, there's not much you can do as a bowler when someone's batting like Bairstow is right now.

But Tim Southee drifts onto the pads and gifts him four runs, easily tickled down to fine leg.

I’m glad I’m sat three floors up when Bairstow is on strike. These boundaries are not big enough.

Clobbered is the perfect description of that. It was a cutter but Jonny Bairstow has just whacked it into the crowd.

    Straight down the ground!

Jonny Bairstow is in the mood, and it's looking like Moeen Ali did a great job of winning the toss here.

Jonny Bairstow's 36 so far is the fourth highest by the England batter in the first four overs of a T20. The highest since 2017.

That is a great shot. It is either or over-correction or Jonny Bairstow moved to the leg side a little bit and Kyle Jamieson tried to bang it in.

I'm not sure he got all of that either. It was top-edgy.

    They keep coming!

Bairstow plays a classical Test match-style straight drive down the ground for four, before a much less elegant club over mid-wicket that still sails for six despite coming nowhere near out of the middle.

17 from the over, and Bairstow races to 36 from just 18 balls.

Kyle Jamieson was just trying to settle into his spell and it was a decent first ball, but it was flicked away with ease.

That stand is going to get a peppering tonight.

    Four overs, four different bowlers.

    Same result each time.

Kyle Jamieson is greeted by Bairstow's short-arm jab over square leg as he once again makes the most of that short boundary.

I can't imagine many bowlers will be queuing up to bowl from this end tonight...

Santner responds well with a couple of dot balls to Will Jacks, but then releases the pressure as Jacks sweeps easily for four more.

    I think we're in for a run-fest.

Tim Southee turns to spin early, but same result.

Mitch Santner drags a loosener down the leg side and Bairstow sweeps unconvincingly, but it still flies away for four.

Jonny Bairstow makes that shot look so easy. It is just a short-arm jab with no backlift.

That short boundary could get a peppering tonight.

    First of the day!

The way Bairstow times the ball makes it look so easy.

Henry drops a fraction too short this time and Bairstow looks like he simply places it over square leg for six.

Signs that it is a very good pitch, because it wasn't too far off a good length from the bowler.

The three games have been one-sided so far so it would be nice to see a close game.

The captain and coach will want to see a close game too to see how their players cope under pressure.

They won't have learnt a huge amount so far.

  20. Eng 9-0published at 1.3 overs

    Oooh, timing!

Matt Henry (not our one) goes a bit too full and Jonny Bairstow effortlessly clips it over mid-wicket for England's first boundary.

    That sounded good.
