Matt Henry angles the ball across Dawid Malan and lures the England opener into a false shot as he plays a wafty swipe outside off stump.
New Zealand are building up the pressure nicely, with just the two singles off this latest over.

England played 88 ODIs between the end of the 2015 World Cup and the start of the 2019 World Cup. Including the upcoming series against New Zealand and Ireland, England will have only played 43 between the end of the 2019 World Cup and the start of the 2023 World Cup.
Just two singles from Tim Southee's second over as New Zealand continue their miserly start. They are not offering the England openers much width at all.
The only stray delivery was the first ball of the match, clipped away for four by Harry Brook.
Good running from Dawid Malan as he sprints through for a quick single from a David Brook defensive push.
A glorious drive looked like it would bring four but Will Young makes a fine diving stop in the covers.
A watchful start from this England pair.

It has been a big talking point because of how well Harry Brook has done with the opportunities he has been given with the Test and T20 sides. You look at Malan and Roy in the last 12 months, they have both averaged over 50 and had a couple of hundreds. Roy was also a big part of the 2019 World Cup side.
Brook just finds himself lower down the pecking order in ODI cricket.
Good response from Southee, with just the two singles off the rest of his over.
Matt Henry will open at the other end.

Not a great loosener there from Southee.
That's what you want as an opening batter.
Tim Southee's first delivery strays down leg and Harry Brook can just help the ball on its way to the boundary for a gift of a four.
Out stride the teams under the warm Cardiff sun and a healthy-looking crowd.
Dawid Malan and Harry Brook is the makeshift opening partnership for England. Tim Southee will open the bowling for New Zealand.
Let's go...

One might ask what have England done with the legacy of winning the World Cup in 2019 in ODI cricket? I think there's more than questions than answers to that.
England: Dawid Malan, Harry Brook, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (c), Liam Livingstone, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, Reece Topley
New Zealand: Will Young, Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (c), Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Kyle Jamieson, Matt Henry Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson.

Harry Brook is a very dangerous player. He's been sending messages with the bat. It will be interesting to see how him and Malan open together.
It is a glorious day in Cardiff, with plenty of sunshine, highs of 26 degrees and no rain.
I'm going to enjoy this while it lasts.

After the T20 series, England coach Matthew Mott said that in these ODIs, he'd be selecting a side that was as close as possible to his starting World Cup XI.
And Gus Atkinson has just been presented his ODI cap by Stuart Broad in the team huddle.
Intriguing team selections everywhere you look.
There's the return of Ben Stokes from his brief ODI retirement. Gus Atkinson continues his meteoric rise with a ODI debut, while Harry Brook - not in the provisional World Cup squad remember - comes into the side to open in what will be just his fourth ODI.
England captain Jos Buttler: "We would have looked to bat so both teams get to do what they want to do."
On having Ben Stokes back: "It is fantastic to have a player like Ben back, for what he gives both on and off the field. I'm delighted to welcome him back."
On getting balance of side back before the World Cup: "These four games give us an opportunity to try some different combinations. We have a couple of niggles so don't want to take any risks, so Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow miss out.
"But it is about getting back to the ODI format, reconnecting with the things we do really well and playing for the team.
"The injuries mean Dawid Malan and Harry Brook will come in to open."
New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "It looks a pretty decent surface but bowling first is the way we're looking to go today.
"It is challenging when you're faced with a series leading up to the announcement. The focus is on these games and staying where our feet are and getting too far ahead.
"This is about guys being in situations as best as they are and against a top-quality side."
New Zealand skipper Tom Latham calls correctly and chooses to have a bowl first.
Yes, welcome to coverage of the first ODI between England and New Zealand from Cardiff.
With the T20 series done and dusted, preparations for the 50-over World Cup will now ramp up as the teams switch to the longer white-ball format for a four-match series over the next eight days.
It is now less than a month until the start of the World Cup in India, with these two teams contesting the opening match in Ahmedabad on 5 October.
