Unfortunately, the rain wins in Northampton.

The rain is still falling, and looks set in for the rest of the day so the game can't be completed.

Here's Sam Drury's match report from the 30.5 overs that were available today.

The series remains 1-0 to England, and the final game of the series takes place on Thursday at Leicester.

We'll hopefully have cricket to bring you tomorrow too, as the men's ODI series v New Zealand continues from The Oval.

    Join us then!

We've had an update from BBC Test Match Special's Henry Moeran, which is a photo of the outfield still with full covers intact.

It is still raining, and looks very grim. Still no official news, but we'll bring that to you as we get it.

What we do know is that if we do return, it will be a reduced game because of the cut-off time.

England weren't going to be chasing too many anyway, with Sri Lanka on 106-9 when the rain started to fall.

There's no news to bring you yet, I'm afraid.

We're just going to assume that it is still raining. The full covers are on, so there will be a lengthy mop-up operation regardless, whenever we do hear anything.

England have bowled very well but have been helped out, on occasion, by some poor batting.

  6. Archer trains with England at The Ovalpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 12 September 2023

Some good news for England ahead of the World Cup in India, which starts in just a few weeks. Fast bowler Jofra Archer has today been training with the ODI squad at Lord's ahead of tomorrow's third ODI with New Zealand.

Lauren Filer has impressed again with her pace, with two wickets, while all-rounder Alice Davidson-Richards also has two to her name.

One apiece for Kate Cross and Sarah Glenn, and it's been a very comprehensive bowling performance from England.

Charlie Dean took the big wicket on her return to the side, and the lack of depth in Sri Lanka's line-up meant that she could settle into a spell easily.

She's got 2-12 from seven overs so far - with three maidens.

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu led from the front once again as they got off to a bit of a flyer, the openers adding 26 in three overs.

But unfortunately it was the same old story for them. Once she got out, there was little resistance from elsewhere.

Sri Lanka have gone off for rain at 106-9. They were bowled out at Chester-le-Street for 106. There have been four ducks so far today.

They've been able to play through steady spits and spots. We won't lose overs immediately because they can make up time during the interval which is 30 minutes.

    Wicket, and off.

The rain is too heavy to play through, and the players depart.

Kalasuriya run out Cross 0 (SL 106-9)

It's very good awareness from Kate Cross, but very poor cricket from the batter.

There was no run - Kalauriya was just getting back into her crease as she was backing up but she's just meandering, not grounding her bat and Cross does the rest.

And on that note... here comes the rain.

  19. Umpire reviewpublished at 30.5 overs

    Now then!

Has Kate Cross pulled off a bit of brilliance here?

She throws down the stumps at the non-striker's end, and Kalauriya may have been caught dozing...
