Well, thank you very much for your company throughout this incredible summer of cricket. We have loved every moment and hope you have, too.

We'll keep you updated on the website and app with all World Cup news and warm-up fixtures before our return for the first game in just over a week's time.

For now, here's my colleague Timothy Abraham's match report from today's events at Bristol, and we look forward to you joining us again soon!

  2. 'Our depth is a great sign for England's future'published at 16:00 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

England captain Zak Crawley: "It was a great honour to captain and the side and a series win is really special.

Putting out this team as a b-team?: "It's a great sign for us as a country moving forward that our depth means we can put out this side as a second team. It's really important for us.

Playing so aggressively as a team?: "I think you watch how the first-team play and you know you have to play like that. It was phenomenal. You have to keep doing that, being brave and it's why the main side are one of the best in the world.

Keen to keep playing ODI cricket for England?: "I'd love to continue to play in ODI cricket for England down the line. My goal has always been to play in as many formats as I can down the line."

  3. 'Today feels like a loss'published at 15:57 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

Ireland captain Paul Stirling: "Yeah, very disappointing, both at Trent Bridge and here. Today feels like a loss even though it wasn't even half a game.

"We'll take a bit of time off and use that to reflect on this series and where we'll go as a side.

"It's tough when you're bowling to world class players who are putting you under pressure. We had a difficult start and it just kept spiralling from there and we couldn't get any control back.

"They were on for a very big score so maybe the rain came just in time for us!

"We've always had talent and produced world-class players but we haven't quite managed to turn that into a team yet, and that's going to be our main focus for us over the next four years.

"I still love the game, I still love batting and hopefully there are still a few more runs in the bank for me yet!"

  4. 'We were going towards a good score'published at 15:54 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

England all-rounder and Player of the Series Will Jacks: "A real shame today. We were going towards a good score and it was a good summer, nice to get this award.

On his bowling: "I think nowadays, you have to be a three-facet cricketer. My bowling is important and it's got me into squads. I've got to improve on that and my batting too.

Partnership with Phil Salt: "He made it easy for me today, he got off to a flying start. If we could've got going it could've been a flying start."

Ironically, the sun is now shining at Bristol.

And there will still be a post-match presentation.

Dawid Malan is named England's ODI player of the summer, and Will Jacks is named player of the series.

  6. 'Spin will vary at each ground'published at 15:48 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

England white ball coach Matthew Mott to Sky Sports - Setting off tomorrow?: "I can spend the day at Cardiff, get a day or doing washing and spending time with the family. There's a PCA auction. We jet out tomorrow night, we're really excited and looking to get our front foot forward.

A lot of spin in India?: "Looking at the stats, it varies venue to venue. We have to be flexible with our line-ups and get our best foot forward.

Do you know a lot about New Zealand already or is it different?: "Around World Cups, it's so different to bilateral series, you are always playing your best teams. We know them well and they know us quite well.

  7. 'One of the toughest selections I've been involved in'published at 15:46 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

England white-ball coach Matthew Mott to Sky Sports - Picking the World Cup squad? David Malan/Jason Roy a late decision?: "With all of those selections, we picked that 15 quite a while back. We knew what it was looking like ever since the T20 World Cup really. When you first look at it, there's a lot of what if scenarios, you hear different perspectives on what we might need. It's definitely the hardest selection I've sat in. When you're leaving out Jason Roy it's tough, he's been a great servant for England at tournaments.

Gus Atkinson's inclusion?" When you slot a young player like Gus Atkinson, you expect nerves but he is so calm. You know he's going to hit a good area at pace. He just slots right in. Sam Curran has been good with him.

Fast bowling depth?: "When I came into this job, it was an area of concern, but we felt we needed depth to improve there. It's exciting what's going on. Fast bowling is a tough ask. The more depth we've got, the better chance we have."

The rain may have ended proceedings here but there is still plenty of action going on in the final round of County Championship action.

I haven't seen rain like that in England for a long time, it was like Sri Lanka monsoon weather.

The rain then came from nowhere and a 10-minute burst was enough to put an end to proceedings.

So it's a disappointing way to end the summer, but what a summer it has been!

From a men's Ashes series for the ages, a women's Ashes that exceeded all expectations and into The Hundred, it has been a delight.

But don't fear - the World Cup is on the horizon, because cricket never seems to end, and that can keep you all occupied during the first couple of months of autumn/winter. England fly to India tomorrow, for their first game on 5 October.

Seam bowler Craig Young was a rare bright spark for Ireland, finishing with 3-31 from his seven overs - quite astonishing figures given how many runs England piled on.

Mark Adair (0-48 from five overs), Josh Little (0-69 from five overs) and debutant Theo van Woerkom (1-47 from four overs) may not be too disappointed with the abandonment.

Disappointment for England, who probably had their eye on a world record total.

Phil Salt smashed 61 from 28 balls, Zak Crawley 51 from 42 and Ben Duckett finishes on 107 not out from 78 balls.

  13. Match Abandonedpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

    And that is that.

The international summer comes to a soggy end after a huge downpour in Bristol.

Just one full match was managed in this series, which was England's win at Trent Bridge on Saturday.

The umpires did just go out for a look, without their umbrellas - which looked promising. But then it started to drizzle again.

And there are quite a few puddles on the outfield and the bowlers' run-ups are drenched, because of the struggles that the ground staff had with getting the covers on in time.

No blame to them, because the rain came so quickly and the wind made it really tough.

Four of the last five ODIs at Bristol before today have been rained off.

The Irish bowlers probably don't mind seeing this rain, looking at their figures.

After Phil Salt's record-breaking opening over, England then added 100 in just eight overs.

I'm not sure what the drainage is like here at Bristol but there are already pools of water forming on the outfield as the rain continues to fall. The groundstaff, predictably clad in shorts, have just finished attaching pipes to the covers. The groundsheets already have standing water on them. The forecast is for this to clear up in the next hour or so, but the mopping up operation will take some time.

Ben Duckett has had a memorable day, even if they don't get back out there.

This is not looking good. We thought rain was coming but this is tropical.
