England reached their 50 off 3.3 overs. That is the fastest by any team in the first innings of a men's ODI match.

Only two teams have done it quicker in the second innings.

  2. Eng 60-0published at 4 overs

Phil Salt, brimming with confidence, drives Josh Little's fourth ball down the ground for four then whips him off his legs for another at the end of the over.

England are absolutely motoring. Records are going to be broken if they continue at this rate.

If it's there to be hit, smash it for six! That's England's attitude.

    Eng 49-0published at 3.2 overs

Will Jacks joins the six party with a back-to-back heaves over the mid-wicket boundary.

There's a gentleman in the flats opposite the pavilion end ringing a bell for every boundary. He's going to have a sore wrist by the end of the innings at this rate.

  5. 6 runs

    Eng 27-0published at 3 overs

Phil Salt is absolutely in the mood.

He brutally dispatches the first ball of Mark Adair's second over to the boundary for six with a heartily slap

Four balls later and Salt more conventionally drives through the covers..

On Saturday, it was such a good knock from Will Jacks that showed all of his ability, he will feel he would have missed out on a few runs.

  7. Eng 25-0published at 2 overs

Will Jacks begins with a sumptuous drive to Josh Little which screeches away through the covers for four. Jacks' driving was quite brilliant at Trent Bridge.

Little turns up the gas in with the next few deliveries and Jacks is fortunate when the Irish pace bowler's fourth ball climbs into him and a thick edge races away to the fielder at deep third.

In men's ODI cricket history, only one player has scored more than 18 runs in the first over of a match. That was Graeme Smith against England at Edgbaston in 2003.

  9. Eng 19-0published at 12:35 British Summer Time 26 September 2023

A relieved Mark Adair finishes the over with a couple of dots. Will Jacks will face Ireland left-arm quick Josh Little.

That is huge from Phil Salt into the stand. Adair has tried everything else. The shorter ball this time, Salt just stands still and slaps that over deep mid-wicket for six.

  11. 6 runs

    Eng 19-0published at 0.4 overs

Mark Adair is too straight again, and a little too short. This time Phil Salt gives it the full treatment, pulling it into the stands for an early six. Adair then bowls a wide.

Not the start Ireland will have wanted here.

Before I got the opportunity to say Ireland will want to start better than they did at Trent Bridge, Salt smashes the first ball for four.

  13. Eng 12-0published at 0.3 overs

Mark Adair gives Phil Salt a bit of width with his first delivery, and the England opener flashes at it sending the ball over the head of point for four.

Next ball Salt drives through the covers for another and then he follows it up with flick of his hips to the boundary to Adair's third.

England off to a flyer again.

When you think back to Saturday, England were 44-0 after just four overs. That allowed England to get such a big head start.

So it's the starts that they have got to improve on.

Also, had they kept their wickets in hand with the bat, they would have been right in there with the chase.

Will Jacks rehearses umpteen shots as he briskly makes his way to the middle. Phil Salt, meanwhile, strolls like it's a Sunday afternoon in the park.

Salt takes guard. He will face the first over, which will be bowled by Mark Adair.

As per Zak Crawley's interview one change to England's team from the side which beat Ireland by 48 runs in the first ODI.

Derbyshire's George Scrimshaw, who you may recall had a memorable debut, drops out and is replaced by Lancashire paceman Luke Wood.

It is Wood's second ODI appearance having made his debut against Australia at Adelaide in November 2022.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore misses out again, so he will have to wait a little longer to make his England debut.

There were a few puddles around to navigate in the narrow streets around the ground but the good news is the County Ground is bathed in sunshine at the moment.

We could have the odd shower this afternoon, but it's not something which should cause any major issues I don't think.

England captain Zak Crawley to Sky Sports: "We were going to bat first, it looks a good pitch.

"Hopefully we can make the most of it.

"George Scrimshaw misses out today so Luke Wood comes back in."

Ireland captain Paul Stirling to Sky Sports: "There's a bit of weather around but we want to put a few things right from the first game and go from there.

"Our starts haven't been great for us, it's been a bit of a trend and I think is one of the big reasons why we're not going to the World Cup next week.

"We know what we need to work on, and we'll hopefully put that right today, because I think in the end we pulled it back well with the ball on Saturday."
