Myself and Daniel Norcross have been on dew watch the last few nights in our hotel and there hasn’t really been any.

If it does arrive it’ll make an England total that already looks well below par even more chaseable.

We have seen signs as the innings has progressed that this pitch is wearing a bit.

It's a fair point. England are world champions in both limited-overs formats and the most entertaining Test team in the world. I grew up in the 90s. This the best I've ever had it. Though the time they picked Darren Pattinson was fun, but for different reasons.

John: England must be the only fan base who have a team that's double world champions but still get mad when we don't perform in every game.

Mark Wood can whack it. England need him to.

That's a good ball from Matt Henry. On the TV replay you could see the ball is really, really churned up.

Bear in mind with a new ball at both ends, that ball is only 23 overs old - it looks 123 overs old.

That shows the surface is really abrasive and taking chunks out of the ball each time, meaning it's two-paced and not really for people to just throw their hands through the ball.

You wonder now where these 40 runs that you feel England need are going to come from.

At this point, I will say we don't know what a good score is until both teams have batted. Still, this doesn't feel like it.

Sam Curran the latest to fall in a soft way. A short ball from Matt Henry, tries to uppercut, but only gets a feather through to Tom Latham. Henry has 3-41. Superb.

England need to focus on batting the overs now, it doesn't feel like they've got enough at the moment.

We haven't seen any games on this pitch yet, though, and we don't know what impact the dew will have so it is all unknown.

But we do know that both teams wanted to bowl first.

Adil Rashid. At this point I am contractually obliged to mention he has 10 first-class hundreds and hits the ball in unusual areas.

Santner has taken 2-37 and that's a sign of the way this pitch is playing.

Santner really gave it some air and Woakes just chips it up for an easy catch.

It was wide and did turn a little bit.

    Woakes c Young b Santner 11 (Eng 250-8)

Oh, it's ugly. Really ugly. Chris Woakes is suckered in by a slow, wide one and can only spoon Mitchell Santner to cover point. Santner takes his cap with figures of 2-37. England are limping to the finish.

Balls like that from Glenn Phillips makes it even more frustrating for England that they have given him two wickets.

Chris Woakes was on to that very quickly. That's a poor ball, definitely what you'd expect from a part-time spinner.

England have got to make the most of any deliveries like that.

  16. Eng 247-7published at 44 overs

The way New Zealand have juggled their bowlers has been superb. Remember, no Southee or Ferguson, with Williamson still working his way back. They essentially only had 12 men to pick from in this game. Still got to get the runs, though. Too short from Phillips, pulled for four by Woakes.

There is a bit of a shadow over the ground now but I still don't think it's any cooler out there.

  18. Eng 239-7published at 43 overs

Chris Woakes defending Rachin Ravindra in the 43rd over of this innings was not in England's script. Ravindra is all done for his 10. Figures of 1-76.

  19. Eng 235-7published at 42 overs

Come on, Matthew, panicking won't help. A few more runs and some good bowling would be much more useful. Besides, they've got about 34 more group games after this one.
