David Warner tries to introduce a bit of impetus, moving down the pitch to slap Ashwin for four through cover.
The spinner tightens up for the rest of the over, which goes for three singles.
Spin at both ends now for India as they introduce left-armer Kuldeep Yadav to complement Ashwin's off-breaks.
The Australian batters work him round for five singles.
Ravi Ashwin reels out another classy over - his three overs have gone for just 13 runs, with Australia's batters eeking just three from these six deliveries.
Hardik Pandya is back after missing the last over, how will his finger hold up?
Smith crashes him four through mid-off, and Hardik cuts off his next shot with his boot - fair play to him, he's not afraid of throwing his extremities at the ball to stop the run.
Four more from Smith follows, smashing through mid-wicket.

There has not been a huge amount of pace in this pitch so far. A few balls have been a little up and down. Australia will have to monitor that and pick the right moments to attack and put pressure on the India bowlers.
Warner 24, Smith 19
Warner finds the boundary off Ashwin's penultimate ball, finding the gap in the field around square.
That's the end of the powerplay.

Rick Harris: I don’t think many people have a problem with drinks breaks in the Cricket World Cup, especially given the heat in India. But after six overs?! The breaks are all scheduled in, it does slow the game down if every other form of break becomes impromptu drinks as well.
In fairness, I think this was linked to the injury to Hardik's finger, but South Africa v Sri Lanka was blighted by sub fielders racing onto the field at any opportunity.
Jasprit Bumrah returns after a one over break, with Hardik Pandya still nursing his ailing finger.
Smith takes two through mid-wicket, but can't find the boundary against India's star seamer.
One over to go in the powerplay.

Interesting move to bring Ravichandran Ashwin on from this end as the ball is keeping a little low. So if Ashwin bowls wicket-to-wicket, Steve Smith will try to sweep to negate the spin and bring lbw into play.
Spin for the first time in this match as India bring Ravichandran Ashwin into the attack in place of Mohammed Siraj.
The veteran wasn't in the initial squad for this tournament but came in as an injury replacement for Axar Patel.
Just the three singles from his first over.
David Warner didn't lose his focus after that lengthy delay, he hooks Hardik away for four, and Smith adds another driving down the ground two balls later.
Hardik races off the field at the end of the over. He's with the physio - evidently that finger is causing him some difficulty.
Hardik Pandya is on to bowl in place of Jasprit Bumrah, sporting his distinctive headband and pierced ear.
Smith smacks his second ball back at him - the all-rounder flings out a hand to attempt the catch but the ball just skims the end of his finger on the way to the boundary.
A physio ventures out onto the field to treat Hardik's digit - that would have been a painful one.

If you can get five overs out of Mohammed Siraj, we have already had three from Jasprit Bumrah, then you have Hardik Pandya. All of a sudden you are out of the powerplay and have 30 overs of spin available in the middle overs. India will then be confident of keeping Australia below 300.

India's fast bowlers are really getting something out of this pitch.
An impressive maiden from Mohammed Siraj, bowling out a tight over to Smith.
The seamer is wearing a white top under his team shirt - it's 32 degrees in Chennai, I'm not sure that would be my choice.
Another four for Smith, firing Bumrah's first ball through the covers. He looks in good nick already.
The seamer goes onto beat Warner's outside edge - Virat Kohli at slip throws his hands up in a mix of frustration and delight.

Liz Mitchell: Did Bumrah break the radio comms as well as the opening partnership?
There was a minor glitch but everything is fixed now, Liz.
Smith has his first boundary, working Mohammed Siraj through mid-wicket to the ropes.
The Australian batter then races through a run to mid-on - there's a smart low throw from the fielder that breaks the stumps, was this close?
The umpires take a look but Smith is past the stumps and half-way to the nearby beach before the bails are off.
Steve Smith is next in for Australia and he takes a first single into the covers. Bumrah then beats Warner's bat - an impressive over from the seamer.

Sensational catch from Virat Kohli, though the dive probably made it look a lot harder than it was.
But, most importantly, he held on to it and entertained the crowd too.
