It was clear on the review there was a spike.

    Labuschagne c Rahul b Jadeja 27 (Aus 119-4)

Just a feather of an edge from Marnus Labuschagne and he is on his way!

Two huge wickets for India the space of a few balls.

Marnus Labuschagne looked quite surprised. The bowler looked convinced. It's a tale of two reactions.

He tried to play the sweep and seemed to get a feather on it.

  6. Australia reviewpublished at 29.2 overs

India think they have Marnus Labuschagne here as he misses a sweep and is caught behind.

The crowd goes wild - but Labuschagne immediately reviews. He surely must know if he hit it or not.

Glenn Maxwell is showing some intent for Australia, but Ishan Kishan is really making his presence felt in this game with his fielding. I used to just stick the boot out and they ended up running three!

  8. Aus 118-3published at 29 overs

    We've all been there, Prakash.

Glenn Maxwell shows some early intent with a powerful sweep-shot that perhaps deserved more than single.

Another inventive hook shot Marnus Labuschagne is again superbly clawed back from the fine leg boundary by Ishan Kishan.

If there's one batter who can get Australia going here its's Jim Maxwell. Erm, I do, of course, mean Glenn Maxwell!

Australia should have found space in their squad for Ashton Agar. He's a spin bowler who often goes under the radar.

  11. How's stat?!published at 11:44 British Summer Time 8 October 2023

    • Since 2011, there's been 10 ODI games played in Chennai, average score being 238.
    • Since 2013 there's been only 4 ODIs played in Chennai, with an average score of 284.
    • Historically teams batting first have done well so 240-260 would be a good score today given the pitch is behaving similarly.

This is definitely not a 300 pitch based on what we've seen from India's spinners. I think it will be difficult to chase something like 265 here. I'd like to see Australia try something outside of the box. We've hardly seen any reverse sweeps, or giving themselves extra room. You cannot meander along.

  13. Aus 112-3published at 28 overs

Glenn Maxwell is the new batter and he immediately gets off the mark with a single.

A brilliant over from Ravindra Jadeja. India now have an opening on a turning pitch with a trio of spinners. Can they take advantage?

First ball after the resumption! He was down for a long time and now he's out. That delay took five minutes and the first ball back on his feet. A classic left-arm spinner's dismissal.

    Smith b Jadeja 46 (Aus 110-3)

And now Steve Smith is out! What a beauty from Ravindra Jadeja!

It pitches on middle but jags away from Smith, beats his defences and clips the top of off!

Smith looks incredulous as he stares at the pitch before slowly slumping off back to the pavilion.

A stumping review, Steve Smith changing of boots and everyone grabs more drinks. All of this results in more delays.

There is another delay as Steve Smith goes down. He may be changing his boots, it may be cramp. Either way it gives everyone another chance to have a drink.

There was a twitch of the back foot, but it is clearly behind the line.

  20. Aus 110-2published at 27 overs

Marnus Labuschagne plays and misses at a Kuldeep Yadav delivery just outside off stump. It prompts a lengthy third umpire check for a stumping but Labuschagne never left his ground.

We very nearly have the rare excitement of a boundary as Labuschagne plays an imaginative hook shot that is clawed back by Ishan Kishan just shot of the rope.

Labuschagne then looks to crack the ball through the covers but is denied a certain four thanks to some more alert fielding by Hardik Pandya.

India have been very miserly in the field so far, with no gimmees.
