  1. 6 runs

    Ned 173-5published at 34.3 overs

    Target 323

Scott Edwards is going to get after Mitchell Santner!

It's a quicker ball from the left-arm spinner but Edwards launches it over deep mid-wicket and into the stands.

The next ball is slower but too short and Edwards goes again, a couple of bounces for four.

This is what makes Lockie Ferguson or an international bowler so good. He was over the wicket and bowled one into the pitch and he noticed the batter didn't play it very well so he's gone round the wicket and is going to continue bowling into the pitch. It only takes one ball.

  3. Ned 163-5published at 34 overs

    Target 323

Unimpressed by that drive from Sybrand Engelbrecht, Lockie Ferguson goes round the wicket and starts banging the ball in short.

He is targeting Engelbrecht's ribs and, while the batter plays it well enough, he can't add to his tally.

  4. Ned 163-5published at 33.1 overs

    Target 323

    Gorgeous on-drive from Sybrand Engelbrecht!

Too full from Lockie Ferguson and Engelbrecht drills it back through mid-on to the fence. Textbook stuff from the new batter.

  5. Ned 158-5published at 33 overs

    Target 323

In comes Sybrand Engelbrecht, the 35-year-old on debut for the Netherlands, and he is off the mark first ball with a single.

It means he'll be facing up to the pace of Lockie Ferguson at the start of the next over.

The ball wasn't in the right place to play that shot. It was a premeditated shot though, it was his boundary option.

You can see why he was going there because there was a gap but he got in a bit of a tangle.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 32.5 overs

    Ackermann c Henry b Santner 69 (Ned 157-5)

Premeditated reverse sweep from Colin Ackermann and it results in a very soft dismissal.

The ball was Mitchell Santner was driven into the pitch and too short for the shot really and Ackermann ends up dollying it to short third.

Something needed to give and, eventually, the pressure told on the Netherlands all-rounder.

  9. Ned 154-4published at 32 overs

    Target 323

Lockie Ferguson is back into the attack as New Zealand go in search of wickets to really hammer home their advantage.

No such luck in this over and, despite plenty of intent from the Netherlands batters, just four singles added to the total.

I'm going to look at it the other and say why aren't New Zealand building pressure and taking wickets? Where are their wicket takers?

The Netherlands need to have a go at Glenn Phillips here because he and Rachin Ravindra, who has already bowled seven overs, are the fifth bowler.

They need to make Tom Latham think about things or he'll just be able to rotate his strike bowlers.

  12. Ned 150-4published at 31 overs

    Target 323

Just five singles from Glenn Phillips' over. That takes the Netherlands to 150.

They're got to get a move on but each 50 runs has come quicker than the last at least. They've gone from 100 to 150 in 55 balls.

    Thanks, Jonty.

Just the 8.97 an over needed by the Netherlands from here. What hope they have rests with Colin Ackermann and Scott Edwards.

  14. Ned 145-4published at 30 overs

    Target 323

Eight runs come from that over and that will be seen as a tick for the Dutch.

As they end the third 10-over phase of the innings, that is the end of my spell.

I shall hand you over to Sam Drury to see us home.

    Worm
  15. Ned 142-4published at 29.2 overs

    Target 323

A punched drive from Ackermann goes through extra cover and beats the on-rushing fielder to the boundary.

Normally, being on a run-a-ball 60 is pretty good in an ODI, but Ackermann has had very little in terms of sustained support in the middle today.

I do wonder if New Zealand playing the part-timer Glenn Phillips could become a problem later in the tournament.

For me, Ish Sodhi should be in the side but it is how they get him in. They can't at the moment. We know that spin is going to come into the tournament as it progresses.

Are they a bowler light? That is the question I'm asking. They'll have some selection headaches when everyone is fit. They'll have a good opportunity to rest and rotate.

  17. Ned 137-4published at 29 overs

    Target 323

That over will be seen as a job well done from New Zealand and Glenn Phillips. Six runs come from it, which is still a drop from Netherlands' required rate, which is approaching nine an over.

Matt Henry continues at the other end, having narrowly missed out on dismissing Edwards in his previous over.

  18. Ned 131-4published at 28 overs

    Target 323

Netherlands need all the help they can get right now and that decision goes in their favour.

How Netherlands build off the back of it is another question entirely, but it is a boost for them.

Six come from the over and for the first time today, Glenn Phillips comes on for a bowl, having dismissed Joe Root and Moeen Ali in the tournament's curtain-raiser.

Nah, I reckon there's at least an inch between the sweatband of the glove and where that has hit on the arm.

This could be interesting because his shirt sleeve is pulled over the sweatband on the wrist.
