  1. NZ 8-0published at 4 overs

    The runs have arrived.

Will Young is up and running for the World Cup, after a first-ball duck against England, with a gorgeous straight punch back past Ryan Klein for four.

He picks up a second boundary through square leg. The outfield doesn't seem to be the quickest based on that.

It puts the batter and bowler under pressure in a phase like this. The batter knows he needs to score and the bowler does not want his run of pressure to end.

As each dot ball passes, it becomes an even more extraordinary start.

  4. NZ 0-0published at 3 overs

Another maiden! This is brilliantly disciplined start from the Netherlands.

Devon Conway tries to use his feet, going deep in his crease, and then down the pitch, to find a gap but he's unable to.

Conway is generally happy to bide his time and pick up the pace through the innings but even this must be testing his patience.

There are clouds in the air but they look like hazy ones, not rain-bearing ones.

  6. NZ 0-0published at 2 overs

    Back-to-back maidens to start.

Right-arm seamer Ryan Klein, who has come into the side today for the injured Logan van Beek, starts with a nice controlled line outside off stump.

He has Will Young playing and missing before a surprise yorker sneaks under Young's bat, but wide of the stumps.

Klein has 12 wickets in 12 ODIs so far.

The Netherlands are normally always the underdogs at a World Cup, but we know they are capable of an upset, like their win last year against South Africa.

  8. NZ 0-0published at 1 over

A maiden to start from Aryan Dutt, who has a slip in too as Scott Edwards seeks an early breakthrough.

Dutt was really good in the powerplay against Pakistan on Friday, and coming into the World Cup his economy in the powerplay was just 3.04.

Devon Conway does average 92 against spin though so it is perhaps an interesting call to open with him.

    Right, time for some cricket.

Devon Conway, fresh from his unbeaten century against England, is in the middle with Will Young.

Off-spinner Aryan Dutt is going to open the bowling for the Netherlands again.

The Netherlands pushed Pakistan on Friday, reducing them to 38-3 and 188-6, but ultimately a chase of 287 proved beyond them.

Bas de Leede impressed with 4-62 and 67 but nobody was able to really stay with the young all-rounder and helped the Dutch get closer to the target.

Let's have a little recap of how both sides got on in their opening game, starting with New Zealand.

I know most of you won't want to see these highlights again, but the Kiwis started with a nine-wicket thrashing of England.

They restricted England with the ball, before smacking the ball all round Ahmedabad to win within 36.2 overs.

It's very much a bowl first World Cup. I'm very worried every team will be win the toss, bowl first, bat second. So far, it is 3-2 to teams bowling first.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "We would have had a bowl but it looks a decent surface. It is obviously the second game on it but hopefully we can put some runs on the board and defend later on.

"It was a fantastic performance against England, the guys played really well in both facets of the game. We understand that was a couple of days ago and there's two more points available in this game that are just as important.

"We've got one change with Lockie Ferguson coming in for Jimmy Neesham."

  16. 'We need to cash in when we get the chance'published at 09:19 British Summer Time 9 October 2023

Netherlands captain Scott Edwards: "We are going to have a bowl first.

Reasons for bowling?: "From the last game, it seemed bowling conditions were better earlier in the game, there's no real dew factor.

Where are the team after the defeat to Pakistan?: "We're in a good place, we just need to cash in when we get the chance in games.

Any changes?: "We've got two changes, Sybrand Engelbrecht in for Saqib Zulfiqar, Ryan Klein coming in for Logan van Beek."

  17. The Netherlands win the toss and bowlpublished at 09:17 British Summer Time 9 October 2023

The toss took place just over 15 minutes ago and Scott Edwards correctly calls head and fancies a chase later on.
